Summary
With 468 currently listed for sale and an average price of $31,421, 36.5% of 2020 BMW 7 Series listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 BMW 7 Series 4.36 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2020 BMW 7 Series stands out as a full-size luxury sedan that blends strong performance with a long list of comfort and technology features. In the sixth generation, BMW gave it a carbon-fiber-reinforced passenger cell, aluminum construction, and a lighter body, while also fitting it with a larger kidney grille and grille shutters to help airflow and aerodynamics. It was also the first 7 Series to offer four-wheel steering, and it came with an upgraded iDrive system that added gesture controls and touchscreen capability, along with ambient lighting, a standard rear-view camera, parking sensors, and an LED “light carpet” for entry.
For 2020, BMW updated the 7 Series with an even larger kidney grille, sleeker headlights, optional laser headlights, available hands-free driving, LED taillights, a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, and an upgraded iDrive system with a voice assistant. The powertrain lineup remained broad, with a 325-horsepower 3.0-liter turbo inline-six, a 450-horsepower 4.4-liter turbo V8, a plug-in hybrid with 395 horsepower, and a diesel option in the U.S. that was available in this generation. That variety, combined with the car’s smooth ride and rear-seat comfort, makes the 2020 BMW 7 Series appealing to buyers who want a traditional luxury sedan with real breadth in its mechanical and tech offerings.
Its drawbacks are the ones you might expect from a large, complex luxury car: options can be expensive, depreciation is high, and the turning circle is poor. Owner feedback also points to limited trunk space, some interior-space concerns, and occasional electronic issues. Even so, the 2020 BMW 7 Series remains distinctive for buyers who want a flagship sedan that emphasizes power, refinement, and advanced features without giving up BMW’s sporty character.

Since they own Rolls Royce, they share drive-train components. Take advantage of this and buy a used one with low mileage and enjoy the savings. Is the 2020 BMW 7 Series a good car?
Generally — with a user rating of 4.36/5, this model year earns strong marks from owners. Review feedback repeatedly points to powerful performance, a luxurious feel, a smooth ride, and impressive features. The 2020 BMW 7 Series is especially appealing if you want a full-size luxury sedan that emphasizes comfort, technology, and BMW’s sporty character. With 33.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2020 BMW 7 Series reliable?
Owners rate it 4.36/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback highlights a car that feels powerful, luxurious, and smooth to drive, which is a good sign for everyday dependability. At the same time, some drivers mention electronic issues, so used buyers should pay close attention to how well the car’s systems operate. For long-term ownership, that means your risk is less about basic drivability and more about the cost and complexity of keeping a large luxury sedan in top shape.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 BMW 7 Series?
At 70% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on electronics, interior condition, and signs of expensive wear, since owner feedback points to occasional electronic concerns and some space-related complaints. Because this is a complex luxury sedan, you’ll want to prioritize overall condition and maintenance quality over cosmetic appeal alone.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 BMW 7 Series?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile opportunities.
- Deal availability: 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

If you find a listing below $31,566, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 BMW 7 Series's resale value?
The current average of $31,566 sits slightly below last year's $35,207.
That price movement suggests the market has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. If you purchase near the lower end of the range and keep the car in strong condition, you may be better positioned when it’s time to resell. Demand should remain supported by the model’s luxury positioning and owner satisfaction.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.36/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2020 BMW 7 Series or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 70% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.34% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.36/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2020 is the better pick if you want a full-size luxury sedan with strong owner approval and a softer price than last year. If you’re especially price-sensitive, it also makes sense to compare nearby years and focus on the cleanest, best-maintained example rather than chasing the newest badge alone.
