How much does the 2020 BMW 5 Series cost?

Prices have softened 8.99% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,177 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 BMW 5 Series a good car?

Yes — the 2020 BMW 5 Series earns a 5/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. The overview describes it as a refined, well-equipped midsize luxury sedan that still keeps real performance credibility, and it also notes a broader range of powertrains for buyers who want efficiency, all-weather traction, or stronger straight-line performance. For you, that means this model year can fit a wide range of priorities without giving up the upscale feel expected in the segment. 36.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 BMW 5 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The overview also says this model year has a better reliability record than the earlier F10 generation, which is encouraging if you want a used luxury sedan with a more reassuring ownership profile. For used buyers, that still means you should budget for premium-car maintenance and verify that the specific car has been cared for properly.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 BMW 5 Series?

At 67.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any reported damage was repaired properly. Put inspection priority on body panels, paint matching, alignment, and signs of uneven wear, since those can reveal past collision work. Focus closely on overall condition and maintenance records so you can separate a clean, well-kept example from one that only looks good on the surface.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 BMW 5 Series?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 36.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,177 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.99% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 67.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $24,768, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 BMW 5 Series's resale value?

The current average of $25,005 sits slightly below last year's $27,475.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. If you plan to sell later, the current softness means your resale outcome will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the car is documented. Well-kept examples should hold up better than average because shoppers still have a broad range of trims and powertrains to choose from.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2020 BMW 5 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 36.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 67.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.99% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $28,456, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $25,005 average.
• It adds a refreshed look, a larger touchscreen, and a 48-volt mild-hybrid system.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2020 if you want the better value and are comfortable shopping carefully for condition. If you want the newer refresh and can stretch your budget, the 2021 is the stronger upgrade path; if price matters most, the 2020 is the smarter buy.
