CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Acura TLX
overall

Summary
With 678 currently listed for sale and an average price of $22,295.00, 29.1% of 2020 Acura TLXs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Acura TLX 4.62 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.83 / 10.
66.1% of 2020 TLX models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Acura TLX stands out as a luxury sedan that still speaks to drivers who care about the road itself. Acura has long positioned itself as the Japanese luxury brand for enthusiasts, and the TLX fits that image best when equipped with Super Handling All-Wheel Drive, which is the setup highlighted as delivering the most engaging experience. That makes the 2020 TLX appealing to buyers who want a premium car that feels more eager and rewarding than many of its rivals.
It also has practical appeal thanks to multiple powertrain options and strong value for money. At the same time, the 2020 Acura TLX is not without drawbacks. The test-drive data points to poor ergonomic design and outdated technology, and owner feedback echoes some of that criticism by calling out the interior layout and button-style gear controls. Even so, the TLX remains attractive for shoppers who prioritize driving enjoyment, a smooth ride, and a distinctive approach to the luxury sedan formula.

All the features you would expect to have in a new car today. Luxury car brand come standard with features like all leather interior with more comfortable seats at the base trim level. V6 engine in this sedan gives the car a good power to weight ratio and easily runs through all gears in the 9 speed transmission. Always feel like there is more power available, in each gear when driving in the highway.

If you find a listing below $21,122.18, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2020 Acura TLX a good car?
Yes — the 4.62/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert score is 6.83/10. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, handling, and overall features, and many also like the exterior design. The recurring trade-offs are the interior layout and button-style gear controls, along with the sense that performance does not always match the price.
That mix fits you best if you want a luxury sedan that feels rewarding on the road and still delivers strong value for money. The market also shows 28.7% good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2020 Acura TLX reliable?
Owners rate it 4.62/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a car that many owners feel good about living with over time, with repeated praise for smooth ride quality and overall dependability. The expert review also describes the TLX as comfortable and quiet for daily driving, with a well-behaved automatic transmission and solid road manners.
Acura’s first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house, which helps early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about basic durability and more about whether the car’s aging electronics and controls have been kept in good working order.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Acura TLX?
At 68% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage example or one with a lower asking price. Pay close attention to interior condition, control operation, and whether the technology and driver-assistance systems behave as expected.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The A-Spec package adds 19-inch wheels, revised bumper designs, side sill skirts, and oversize round exhaust outlets, while the Technology Package adds comfort, convenience, safety, and infotainment enhancements. The base car is the one most likely to miss those upgrades.
- Powertrain: The standard setup uses a 206-horsepower, 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic, while higher-spec versions add a 290-hp, 3.5-liter V6 with a 9-speed automatic and torque-vectoring SH-AWD.
- Safety package: Every TLX has adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and road-departure mitigation. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is included on all but the base TLX with no option packages.
- Infotainment: The car uses dual screens, with a bottom touchscreen and a top display controlled by buttons and a knob. It also has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Fuel efficiency: The test loop returned 23 mpg, matching the EPA’s combined estimate.
Which 2020 Acura TLX trim should I buy?
The 2020 Acura TLX is offered in 3 trim levels: TLX, A-Spec, PMC Edition.
Here's the short version:
- TLX: This is the entry point if you want the lowest-cost way into the model, but it is also the version most likely to leave you without the richer appearance and equipment upgrades that make the TLX feel special.
- A-Spec: This is the best-value choice if you want the sharper look and a more complete feel without jumping to the top of the range. It adds the styling upgrades that make the car look more purposeful, and it pairs well with the TLX’s strongest traits.
- PMC Edition: This is the fully loaded choice, combining the available packages with the top-performing powertrain. It suits you if you want the most exclusive and most powerful version, but it is the least budget-friendly path.
The safety package is standard across the lineup, but blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is not included on the base TLX with no option packages.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Acura TLX?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you focus on condition and pricing.
- Deal availability: 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 691 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.68% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 68.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,122.18, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Acura TLX's resale value?
The current average of $22,488 sits slightly below last year's $22,873.
That softer pricing suggests the TLX is still giving buyers room to negotiate, which can help future resale if you buy at the right number. A model that already sits below its prior-year average may be easier to position competitively later, especially if you keep mileage and condition in check.
Strong owner satisfaction also helps support demand when it is time to sell. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Acura TLX safe?
It doesn’t qualify for a Top Safety Pick due to an Acceptable rather than Good result in the small overlap frontal-impact test on the driver’s side. It earns five-star ratings in every NHTSA test, including the rollover test.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Every TLX has adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and road-departure mitigation. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is included on all but the base TLX with no option packages.
The main caveat is that the driver-assistance systems can feel abrupt and less refined than newer rivals, so you should test them carefully on your own drive.
Should I buy a 2020 Acura TLX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 68% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.68% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2020 stands out for its strong value, engaging SH-AWD-equipped driving character, and high cost-effectiveness score.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $26,784, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $22,488 average.
- It brings a new platform and a redesigned exterior and interior.
The bottom line: If you want the better value and are comfortable with the TLX’s older tech and mixed ergonomics, the 2020 is the smarter buy. If you want a newer-generation feel and are willing to pay more, the 2021 is the cleaner upgrade; price-sensitive buyers should stay focused on well-kept 2020 examples with strong history reports.
