CarGurus Analysis: 2019 Volvo XC90
Summary
With 156 currently listed for sale and an average price of $18,025, 19.2% of 2019 Volvo XC90 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Volvo XC90 4.75 / 5 stars.
85.3% of 2019 Volvo XC90 listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2019 Volvo XC90 stands out as a luxury midsize SUV that blends Scandinavian design, family-friendly practicality, and a strong safety reputation. It offers a more luxurious interior layout than before, with a vertical touchscreen infotainment system that includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality, plus high-quality materials and easy access throughout the cabin. Space is a major part of its appeal, with good room in the second row and a third row that Volvo says can comfortably accommodate passengers up to 5'7" tall. Some versions also add a crystal gear shifter made by Swedish glassworks company Orrefors, which gives the cabin an extra sense of occasion.
This model year also benefits from a broad range of powertrains. The T5 uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 250 horsepower, while the T6 is turbocharged and supercharged for 316 horsepower. The T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid combines the T6 unit with an electric motor for up to 400 horsepower and impressive fuel economy. Safety remains a core strength, with City Safety, Pilot Assist for semi-autonomous driving, and a 360-degree camera system among the features mentioned for this generation. Buyers should note, though, that base models are described as underpowered, and the XC90 can bring higher maintenance costs typical of European luxury vehicles.
For 2019, the XC90’s appeal is also tied to its balance of comfort, technology, and versatility. Owners commonly praise its comfort, safety, and innovative features, along with its spaciousness for family use. At the same time, some drivers report minor warning-light issues, so it is still worth checking the vehicle carefully. Overall, the 2019 Volvo XC90 is distinctive because it delivers a polished, safety-focused luxury experience without losing the practicality that makes a three-row SUV useful.

Although we purchased the car with nearly 70k miles on it, it was in like new condition. Our whole family is in love with all of the thoughtful, convenient, and innovative features this vehicle has to offer. From the all-wheel drive and full panoramic moon roof with screen to the two-tone leather seating, lumbar support, the projected speed on the windshield, automatic headlights with local posted speed limits, and automatic windshield wipers. With the extended warranty we purchased with the vehicle, we hope to be enjoying it for many years to come.

| Year-Round Low | $19,589 |
| Year-Round High | $22,800 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $22,797 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −14.07% |

There are 1,139 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2019 Volvo XC90 a good car?
Yes — the 4.75/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its comfort, safety, and innovative features, and they also highlight the spacious cabin and family-friendly layout. That lines up well with the XC90’s role as a luxury midsize three-row SUV, especially if you want a polished, practical option with a premium feel. With 37.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitive offer.
Is the 2019 Volvo XC90 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a dependable ownership experience centered on comfort, safety, and innovative features. Many drivers describe it as a high-value luxury SUV, which suggests it can be a satisfying choice if you want something refined and family-oriented. A few owners mention minor warning-light issues, so used buyers should still plan for a careful inspection and expect some long-term ownership risk typical of a European luxury SUV.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Volvo XC90?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 75% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should prioritize a history report first, then focus on a pre-purchase inspection that checks for warning lights and any signs of unresolved electrical issues. Pay close attention to overall condition, since luxury SUVs can carry higher maintenance costs and small problems can become expensive if ignored. It also helps to compare service records closely, especially if you want a well-kept example with fewer surprises.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Volvo XC90?
This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can be selective without expecting deep bargain-bin pricing.
- Deal availability: 37.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,139 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 14.07% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 75.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $19,589, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Volvo XC90's resale value?
The current average of $19,589 sits slightly below last year's $22,797.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy more affordably now but may also limit near-term upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you can reduce the impact of depreciation. Demand should remain supported by the XC90’s comfort, safety, and family-friendly appeal.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2019 Volvo XC90 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 37.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 75% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 14.07% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $22,915, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $19,589 average.
- It keeps the same modern family-SUV formula with a polished, safety-focused feel.
The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2019 is the stronger starting point because pricing has softened and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model year, the 2020 is the cleaner alternative for buyers who want to move up in price and stay close to the same overall formula.
