Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Volkswagen Passat?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer's market, so you can shop patiently and still find value.

• Deal availability: 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 578 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.10% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 62.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $12,200, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Volkswagen Passat's resale value?

The current average of $12,400 sits slightly below last year's $13,794.

That softer pricing can help you buy at a more favorable entry point, but it also means future resale gains may be limited if the market stays soft. If you plan to sell later, condition and documentation matter even more because buyers will likely compare your car against plenty of similarly priced alternatives.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2019 Volkswagen Passat or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 62.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.10% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $12,182, the 2018 costs less than the current year's $12,400 average.
• It adds more sportiness and a stronger engine lineup.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $14,059, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $12,400 average.
• It brings a refreshed look and a roomier, value-focused feel.

The bottom line: You should start with the 2019 if you want the best balance of price, satisfaction, and available deals. If you're especially price-sensitive, the 2018 is the smarter value play; if you want a newer-feeling option and can spend more, the 2020 is worth a look.
