Is the 2019 Volkswagen Passat a good car?

Yes — the 5/5 user rating suggests you can feel confident considering this model year. That score points to strong owner satisfaction, which matters when you want a used sedan that feels like a safe bet. With 32.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you also have a meaningful chance to find attractive pricing.

Is the 2019 Volkswagen Passat reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

For used buyers, that kind of owner feedback suggests lower ownership risk than you might expect from a car at this price point, especially if you verify condition carefully before buying.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Volkswagen Passat?

At 63% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any reported damage matches the seller’s disclosure. Put inspection priority on body panels, paint consistency, tire wear, and signs of uneven repair work. If a listing looks especially clean and is priced near the low end, make sure the condition supports the asking price before you move quickly.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Volkswagen Passat?

This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and deal activity to reward careful shopping.

• Deal availability: 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 579 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.46% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 63.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $12,196, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Volkswagen Passat's resale value?

The current average of $12,424 sits slightly below last year's $13,875.

That softer pricing can help you buy at a more favorable entry point, but it also means future resale gains may be limited if the market stays soft. If you plan to sell later, condition and documentation will matter more because buyers will likely compare your car against plenty of similarly priced listings. A clean history and strong maintenance record can help you stand out when it’s time to trade or sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2019 Volkswagen Passat or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 63% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.46% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $12,218, the 2018 costs less than the current year's $12,424 average.
• It adds more sportiness and an available V6 GT trim.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $14,110, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $12,424 average.
• It gets a refresh that improves the familiar formula.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price and shopper confidence, the 2019 is the primary path to consider. If you’re more price-sensitive, the 2018 is the better value play, while the 2020 makes sense if you want to spend more for the newer refresh.
