Summary
With 3,418 currently listed for sale and an average price of $36,063.00, 31.2% of 2019 Toyota Tacomas for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Toyota Tacoma 4.22 / 5 stars.
65.9% of 2019 Tacoma models on CarGurus are accident free.
The 2019 Toyota Tacoma is known for its rugged design, solid performance, and impressive resale value, making it a popular choice among mid-sized truck enthusiasts.
Why it stands out
The 2019 Toyota Tacoma is a standout in the mid-sized truck segment due to its robust build quality and reliability. It features a direct-injected, Atkinson-cycle 3.5-liter V6 engine that delivers 278 horsepower, making it capable of towing up to 6,800 pounds, depending on the configuration. The Tacoma's design is both functional and stylish, with a rugged exterior that appeals to outdoor enthusiasts. Inside, while the materials may lean towards durability over luxury, the Tacoma offers ample storage and a straightforward control layout. However, some users have noted that the ride quality can be less refined compared to competitors, and the technology feels outdated. Despite these drawbacks, the Tacoma's reputation for longevity and strong resale value makes it an appealing option for buyers looking for a dependable truck.

This vehicle had a terrible engine vibration under load, it was dirty, and dirt everywhere , the tow hitch showed signs of heavy work, and when trying to explain it to the dealer , they more or less couldn’t wait for me to get off there lot.

Love this model, but not this particular unit. It has been hit three times, the back bumper was smashed. I was told it was going to be replaced. The truck was filthy, and the salesman was not honest about the Carfax or the advertised price.

Is the 2019 Toyota Tacoma reliable?
Owners rate it 4.22/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The user feedback emphasizes reliability, longevity, and a truck that many owners feel they can count on over time. The expert evaluation also describes it as cost-effective and notes that Toyota provides free scheduled maintenance for the first two years or 25,000 miles.
That said, used buyers should still watch for signs of hard use, because a truck built for work and off-road duty can hide wear that matters later.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Toyota Tacoma?
At 65.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of body panels, suspension, brakes, and interior wear. Focus on whether the truck has been used hard off-road or for towing, since those uses can leave behind issues that are not obvious in photos. A clean-looking listing is not enough; condition and maintenance history matter a lot here.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: Toyota differentiates trims with unique grilles, wheels, hoods, and finishes, and the base setup leans hard into function over form with simple analog gauges and an old-school control panel. The cabin uses hard, durable plastics, and the more affordable versions do without the richer equipment found higher up.
- Powertrain: Most versions use a direct-injected, Atkinson-cycle 3.5-liter V6 with 278 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque. It is paired with a 6-speed automatic, and the truck is set up for towing with heavy-duty cooling, trailer wiring, Trailer Sway Control, and a receiver hitch.
- Safety package: Every 2019 Tacoma gets Toyota Safety Sense, including adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, sway warning, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available for most versions, but not every trim gets the same coverage.
- Infotainment: The Tacoma uses a 7-inch display, and the system lacks wireless CarPlay and Android Auto. Toyota says those features arrive for 2020, along with an 8-inch screen and Amazon Alexa compatibility.
- Fuel efficiency: The expert test loop returned 18.9 mpg, and the truck averaged 20.1 mpg over a full week of testing. The expert also cites 20 mpg in combined driving.
Which 2019 Toyota Tacoma trim should I buy?
The 2019 Toyota Tacoma is offered in 6 trim levels: SR, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited, and TRD Pro.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: SR is the most stripped-down choice, and it reflects the Tacoma’s work-first personality with the simplest cabin presentation and fewer comfort and convenience features.
- Sweet-spot trim: SR5 is the best value pick if you want the Tacoma experience without paying for the more specialized off-road or luxury-oriented upgrades.
- Premium/top trim: Limited is the most polished everyday choice, with the richest feel among the standard trims and the most upscale presentation in the lineup.
- Off-road trim: TRD Off-Road and TRD Pro are the right picks if you want the Tacoma’s strongest trail hardware, but they make less sense if your driving is mostly commuting and errands.
Toyota Safety Sense is standard across the lineup, while blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available for most versions.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Toyota Tacoma?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting deep distress pricing.
- Deal availability: 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,419 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.98% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 65.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $28,475.52, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Toyota Tacoma's resale value?
The current average of $29,711 sits slightly below last year's $30,624.
That modest decline suggests the Tacoma is holding value better than many used vehicles, even if today’s market is a bit softer than it was a year ago. For a future seller, that kind of stability is helpful because it reduces the risk of a steep depreciation hit. Strong demand for a truck with this reputation can also help keep pricing resilient when you decide to move on.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.22/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2019 Toyota Tacoma safe?
It earns an Acceptable rating from IIHS for the Double Cab small-overlap front test, and the Tacoma Double Cab earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense is standard, and it includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, sway warning, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available for most versions.
There are a few caveats to keep in mind: headlight performance and LATCH anchor access rate as Marginal, and the Access Cab was not assessed in the IIHS small-overlap test. The lane-departure warning beep was also noted as intrusive.
Should I buy a 2019 Toyota Tacoma or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 65.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.98% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.22/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It pairs strong towing ability with standard Toyota Safety Sense and a reputation for durability.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $31,347, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $29,711 average.
- It adds Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, and an 8-inch screen.
The bottom line: If you want the lower price and can live with older tech, the 2019 is the smarter buy. If modern infotainment matters more than savings, the 2020 is the cleaner upgrade path for price-insensitive buyers.
