CarGurus Analysis: 2019 Toyota Corolla

Summary
With 1,895 currently listed for sale and an average price of $14,735, 30.3% of 2019 Toyota Corollas for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Toyota Corolla 4.56 / 5 stars.
55.8% of 2019 Corolla models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2019 Toyota Corolla stands out as a practical, easy-to-live-with compact car that leans hard into value rather than flash. Toyota’s buying guide describes the Corolla as compact, dependable, and easy to live with, and that basic formula is a big part of its appeal. For shoppers who want a car that is affordable to own and unlikely to let them down, the Corolla’s reputation for reliability and low running costs makes it an easy car to understand.
What makes this generation distinctive is the breadth of its lineup and the amount of equipment it offers. The Corolla sedan and hatchback body styles are both available, the Corolla Hybrid is offered only as a sedan, and the GR Corolla is only available as a hatchback. The hybrid pairs a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine with electric motors for 121 combined horsepower and 52 mpg combined fuel economy, while gas models came with either a 1.8-liter engine making 139 horsepower or a 2.0-liter engine making 169 horsepower, depending on trim. Standard equipment on the entry-level sedan includes LED headlights and tail lights, a reversing camera, dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert, a seven-inch touchscreen, and voice recognition, which helps explain why the Corolla feels well equipped even in basic form.
There are also some clear limitations. The Corolla has long been known for being sensible rather than exciting, and the buying guide notes that some versions are very bland, with limited engine choice for many versions and basic interiors in older models. Even so, the 2019 Toyota Corolla remains appealing because it combines strong everyday usability, good fuel economy, and a long-standing reputation for durability in a package that is straightforward to own and drive.

This car is a solid purchase. The added safety features such as Toyota safety sense to prevent lane drift and adaptive cruise control make this an even more desirable model. This car is a perfect fit for my driving needs.

If youre looking for something simple and affordable that gets you from point A to point B, the 2019 Toyota Corolla is it. It has a good sized touch screen with radio, blue tooth, and settings controls. You can play music, listen to texts, reply, and take calls without any trouble or needing to look at your phone. The car has a few cool safety features such as lane detection, sensing if youre needing to brake to avoid an accident, and an anti theft gps tracking system that you can manage through an app on your phone (which is also useful in a large parking lot). Its not the most exciting car Ive driven, but the great gas mileage pretty much makes up for that. Its easily maneuverable. It doesnt have a ton of buttons like most other newer cars, which is alright because who actually cares to learn the use of 50 different buttons (I dont). I do find myself missing power controlled seat adjustment, sometimes. But for the price, and long term cost to gas and maintain the car, its a great car.

Handles very well on the road. Sleek/stylish appearance and great safety features. The SE Sport mode gives a nice little boost when needed. Very pleased overall.

Great turning radius and smooth ride. Has really good acceleration. My husband wants the manual transmission...it is harder to find.

How much does the 2019 Toyota Corolla cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $14,781 |
| Year-Round Low | $14,122 |
| Year-Round High | $14,981 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $14,978 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −1.31% |
Prices have softened 1.31% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,933 listings available, which gives you a solid pool to compare prices and equipment.
Is the 2019 Toyota Corolla a good car?
Yes — the 4.56/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its affordability, reliability, and excellent gas mileage, and many also like the strong safety features and easy-to-use controls. That fits the Corolla’s role as a practical, easy-to-live-with compact car for everyday commuting and low-stress ownership. With 29.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a value-focused example.
Is the 2019 Toyota Corolla reliable?
Owners rate it 4.56/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The user feedback also emphasizes reliability, dependable daily use, and a trouble-free ownership experience, with many drivers saying it’s a car they can count on. That kind of reputation matters if you want a used car that should stay predictable over time. For long-term ownership, the main risk is less about mechanical drama and more about finding one that has been maintained well and not worn down by heavy use.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Toyota Corolla?
At 56.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on overall condition, maintenance records, and signs of past repairs, since those details matter more than mileage alone on a value-oriented compact car.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Toyota Corolla?
This is a moderate market, so you can be selective without expecting deep discounts on every listing.
- Deal availability: 29.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,933 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.31% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 56.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $14,122, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Toyota Corolla's resale value?
The current average of $14,781 sits slightly below last year's $14,978.
That softer pricing suggests the Corolla is holding value reasonably well, but not aggressively appreciating in the current market. If you buy at the right price, you reduce the risk of taking a bigger hit later. For a future seller, the key advantage is that the Corolla’s reputation for practicality and low ownership stress helps keep demand steady.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.56/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2019 Toyota Corolla or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 29.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 56.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.31% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.56/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $16,616, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $14,781 average.
- It adds a more stylish, more engaging feel with a redesigned personality.
The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2019 is the stronger starting point because it combines a lower average price with solid owner satisfaction. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer-feeling Corolla with a more engaging character, the 2020 is the better secondary path.
