How much does the 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class cost?

Prices have softened 9.72% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 405 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class a good car?

Yes — the 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its rugged design, solid build quality, and modern features. The review summary also points to its head-turning looks and high resale value, which reinforces its appeal if you want something with strong character and lasting desirability.

On the downside, the expert notes poor visibility and poor value for money, and advanced safety features are not standard. That makes it a better fit if you care more about presence, craftsmanship, and capability than everyday practicality.

The overview frames it as a luxury SUV for buyers who want genuine off-road credibility and a distinctive image, and the market shows 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

Is the 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The review summary points to a rugged design, solid build quality, and a sense that the vehicle feels dependable enough to count on over time. The expert notes also emphasize its heavy-duty construction and the way it feels carved from a single block of steel, which supports the impression of durability.

The cabin and mechanical setup are built for long-term use, but used buyers should still pay close attention to maintenance history and overall condition because this is a complex, high-cost luxury SUV.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class?

At 74.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the truck’s expensive luxury and off-road hardware has been maintained properly.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin is defined by ultra-soft leather, wood, aluminum accents, LED lighting, and wide digital displays, but the base setup still leaves some convenience and safety features off the table.
• Powertrain: A 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 makes 416 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 9-speed automatic, 2-speed transfer case, permanent 4WD, and three locking differentials.
• Safety package: The stability control is aggressive, and the active lane-keeping system turns on by default; advanced safety features are not standard.
• Infotainment: The Comand system is crisp and colorful, with WiFi and live traffic, but some functions are buried in submenus.

Which 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class trim should I buy?

The 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class is offered in 1 trim level: G550.

Here's the short version:

The G550 is the trim to focus on if you want the core G-Class experience: the twin-turbo V8, permanent 4WD, three locking differentials, and the full luxury-heavy cabin that defines this model year. It is the best fit for buyers who want the standard G-Class character without chasing a higher-priced AMG variant.

The safety content notes that the G-Class was not tested by NHTSA or IIHS, and it also warns that its increased rollover tendency makes it less ideal for young or inexperienced drivers.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market.

• Deal availability: 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 405 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.72% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 74.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $104,254, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class's resale value?

The current average of $105,038 sits slightly below last year's $116,349.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled from a year ago, which can help you buy more selectively now. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle has been maintained.

Because this model has strong owner satisfaction and a distinctive image, well-kept examples should continue to attract interest. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class safe?

The 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class has not been tested by NHTSA or IIHS.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

The safety content highlights the G-Class’s increased tendency to roll over, which is a meaningful caveat for used buyers. It also notes that the vehicle is not the ideal choice for young or inexperienced drivers or families.

The expert review adds that stability control is aggressive and active lane-keeping turns on by default, which helps manage the truck’s old-school dynamics. Even so, the lack of formal crash-test results and the rollover warning are important considerations.

Should I buy a 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 74.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.72% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2019 brings the first full redesign in 40 years while preserving the G-Class’s rugged character.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $118,493, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $105,038 average.
• It keeps the redesigned G-Class formula while preserving the old-school look and feel.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2019 is the smarter starting point because pricing has eased and the model still delivers the redesigned G-Class experience. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer example, the 2020 is the cleaner alternative for shoppers who want the same character with a later model year.
