CarGurus Analysis: 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS
overall

Summary
With 205 currently listed for sale and an average price of $31,195.00, 35.6% of 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLSs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.17 / 10.
65.9% of 2019 CLS models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS stands out first for its styling. Mercedes-Benz describes it as the brand’s slickest sedan, and the car’s curvy, striking shape is presented as a major part of its appeal. Even as a rarer sight on the road, the 2019 CLS is positioned as a luxury sedan that still turns heads while aiming to lead with superior technology and powertrains.
It also brings a strong mix of comfort and safety. The test-drive data highlights great ride quality and standard advanced safety features, which should make it appealing to buyers who want a refined daily driver with a premium feel. At the same time, the 2019 CLS is not without drawbacks: the back seat is cramped, the technology is described as unintuitive, and it is called poor value for money. That combination makes it a car for shoppers who prioritize design and presence over maximum practicality or bargain pricing.

Great power with exceptional handling. AMG features (sports seats, steering wheel) are definitely worth the extra money. The infotainment is a bit outdated despite the controls being very intuitive, and sound system is top notch! I was looking at the A7/S7 and thought this was a much better option.

Great car. Its a mercedes so repairs are expensive and the CLS is a little impractical in the back seat. But its a blast to drive and smooth and quiet.

If you find a listing below $31,417.29, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS a good car?
Yes — 5/5 from users and 8.17/10 from expert testing. The 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS is presented as a luxury sedan that leads with styling, premium presence, and strong technology and powertrains, while also delivering a great ride and standard advanced safety features.
The model scores 10/10 across Look and feel and Safety.
The trade-offs are clear: the back seat is cramped, the technology is described as unintuitive, and value for money is poor. That makes it a better fit if you care more about design, comfort, and a high-end feel than maximum practicality or bargain pricing.
Only 29.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market does not look especially generous.
Is the 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS is framed as a refined luxury sedan with strong comfort and safety, and the expert testing emphasizes a smooth, technically advanced powertrain and a well-isolated driving experience.
The powertrain is described as smooth and nearly shake-free at startup, with seamless stop-start behavior and strong electric assist when you want extra power. The cabin also includes a maintenance perk in the form of three years of map updates and live traffic, which adds some ownership convenience.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a complex luxury car can be expensive to keep in top shape, especially if prior maintenance has been inconsistent.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS?
At 63% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has any accident history or visible cosmetic wear. Focus on condition details that matter on a luxury sedan like this: bodywork alignment, wheel condition, interior wear, and whether the technology and driver-assistance systems operate as intended.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The CLS is described as a striking, luxury-focused sedan with a lavish interior, 64-color ambient lighting, and a premium cabin presentation, but the base setup still leaves you with a cramped rear seat and technology that can feel unintuitive.
- Powertrain: The standard setup uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 with electric assist, 362 horsepower, 369 pound-feet of torque, and a 48-volt system that smooths starts and stop-start operation.
- Safety package: The Driver Assistance Package adds one of the best semi-autonomous systems in the business, with steering and braking support, lane changes when you hold the signal, speed-limit following, and curve and ramp slowing; some features can still behave awkwardly.
- Infotainment: Standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, along with a customizable instrument display, live traffic, and three years of map updates; onboard Wi-Fi and wireless charging are optional.
- Fuel efficiency: The rear-wheel-drive version is rated at 24 mpg city, 31 highway, and 26 combined, while the 4Matic version is rated at 23/30/26.
Which 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS trim should I buy?
The 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS is offered in 2 trim levels: CLS 450 and CLS 450 4Matic.
Here's the short version:
- CLS 450: This is the better-value choice if you want the CLS experience with the standard rear-wheel-drive setup, the smooth inline-6 hybrid powertrain, and the full luxury-and-tech personality without paying extra for all-wheel drive.
- CLS 450 4Matic: Choose this if you want the added traction of all-wheel drive and are willing to pay more for it; it keeps the same core strengths while adding confidence in poor weather.
The safety package note is the same across the lineup: the Driver Assistance Package is optional, and it adds the semi-autonomous highway and lane-support features.

If you find a listing below $31,417.29, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS's resale value?
The current average of $31,385 sits slightly below last year's $33,480.
That softer pricing suggests the model has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help if you buy at the right number. For a future seller, the challenge is that this is a high-end car with expensive options and only average resale value, so condition and mileage will matter a lot when it comes time to trade or sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS safe?
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
Despite flaws in the driver-assistance systems, the ones working behind the scenes are impressive: pedestrian and blind-spot detection, front and rear cross-traffic alerts, and advanced steering that can help the driver route around a stopped obstacle. Forward-collision alert, auto braking, and a driver-attention monitor also come standard, as does a sensing system so advanced it can predict if someone is about to rear-end you and quickly adjust your seat, close the windows, and flash the hazards.
The Driver Assistance Package adds steering and braking support on highways and marked two-lane roads, lane changes when you hold the turn signal, speed-limit following, and automatic slowing for curves, intersections, and exit ramps. A caveat is that the system can still make mistakes and may feel less intuitive than an attentive driver.
Should I buy a 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 29.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 63% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.26% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2019 stands out for its striking styling, strong ride quality, and standard advanced safety features.
The bottom line: If you want the CLS at its most compelling, the 2019 is the one to target because it combines standout design, strong tech, and a softer used-market price than a year ago. If you are especially price-sensitive, shop carefully for the cleanest, lowest-priced example you can find, since accident history and expensive options can quickly change the value equation.
