How much does the 2019 Mazda CX-5 cost?

Prices have softened 2.92% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,249 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2019 Mazda CX-5 a good car?

Yes — the 2019 Mazda CX-5 earns a 4.8/5 user rating and an 8.3/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its value, luxury feel, great handling, interior quality, safety features, and impressive fuel efficiency. That lines up with the CX-5’s upscale, driver-focused character and its appeal if you want a compact SUV that feels more polished than many rivals.

The main trade-offs are its unintuitive technology and underwhelming base engine. If you want the most satisfying version, the stronger powertrain options are the better fit.

The CX-5’s premium feel and strong value story make it especially appealing if you want a compact crossover that feels rewarding to drive. Good and great deals account for 33.6% of listings, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.

Is the 2019 Mazda CX-5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with repeated praise for value, safety, and overall satisfaction. That kind of response suggests you can count on the CX-5 to deliver the qualities shoppers want over time.

The expert review also supports that impression by describing the CX-5 as a strong all-around package with solid performance and broad appeal. If you’re buying used, the main long-term risk is choosing a poorly maintained example or one that doesn’t match your powertrain expectations.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Mazda CX-5?

At 65.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and whether the equipment level matches what you want, since the trim spread changes the ownership experience quite a bit.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Sport trim includes LED headlights, a push-button ignition, a 7-inch touchscreen, and a strong safety suite, while Touring adds keyless entry, a power driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear climate vents, heated front seats, two more USB ports, and an upgraded stereo. Grand Touring adds adaptive headlights, LED fog lights, leather upholstery, an upgraded driver display, and navigation, while Grand Touring Reserve and Signature bring the turbocharged engine and more luxury features. The base trim is the one most likely to feel stripped down if you want smartphone connectivity and a more upscale experience.
• Powertrain: The standard setup uses a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder with a 6-speed automatic and 187 horsepower. The Grand Touring Reserve and Signature use a turbocharged version with up to 250 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, or 227 horsepower on lower-octane fuel, and the base engine returns 25 mpg city, 31 highway, and 28 combined while the turbo setup is rated at 22 mpg city, 27 highway, and 24 combined.
• Safety package: Mazda’s i-ActiveSense suite is standard across the range and includes automatic headlights, wipers, and high beams; lane-departure warning and assist; adaptive cruise control; and forward-collision warning and mitigation. The 360-degree camera and parking sensors are reserved for the top-tier Signature trim.
• Infotainment: The CX-5 uses a 7-inch touchscreen, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard on everything above the base Sport trim. The MazdaConnect system is attractive and responsive, though the scroll-wheel interface may not suit everyone.
• Fuel efficiency: The base engine is rated at 25 mpg city, 31 highway, and 28 combined, while the turbocharged setup is rated at 22 mpg city, 27 highway, and 24 combined.

Which 2019 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?

The 2019 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 5 trim levels: Sport, Touring, Grand Touring, Grand Touring Reserve, and Signature.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the least expensive way into the CX-5, and it still brings LED headlights, a push-button ignition, a 7-inch touchscreen, and standard safety tech. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price, but it’s also the trim most likely to leave you wanting more convenience and connectivity.
• Touring: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds keyless entry, a power driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear climate vents, heated front seats, two more USB ports, and an upgraded stereo. If you want a more complete daily driver without jumping too far up the price ladder, this is the sweet spot.
• Grand Touring: This trim adds leather upholstery, adaptive headlights, LED fog lights, an upgraded driver display, and navigation. It suits you if you want a more upscale cabin and more premium features without going all the way to the turbocharged models.
• Grand Touring Reserve: This is where the more powerful turbocharged engine arrives, along with a head-up display, power-folding mirrors, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and a windshield wiper de-icer. Choose this if you want the strongest blend of performance and comfort.
• Signature: This is the most luxurious CX-5 here, with ambient cabin lighting, upgraded leather upholstery, real wood trim, a 360-degree camera, and parking sensors front and rear. It’s the right pick if you want the most premium-feeling version and don’t mind paying for it.

The safety suite is standard across the range, while the 360-degree camera and parking sensors are reserved for the Signature trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Mazda CX-5?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it’s a reasonable time to shop if you’re comparing listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,249 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.92% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 65.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,189, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Mazda CX-5's resale value?

The current average of $18,719 sits slightly below last year's $19,281.

That softer pricing suggests the CX-5 has become a bit more buyer-friendly, which can help you if you’re shopping now. For a future seller, it means you may need to price competitively to stand out, especially if your vehicle lacks the more desirable equipment or trim level.

Even so, the CX-5’s strong reputation for value, safety, and driving enjoyment should help support demand. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Mazda CX-5 safe?

The 2019 Mazda CX-5 earns Top Safety Pick recognition from IIHS and five-star ratings in nearly every NHTSA category, with a four-star rollover rating.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Mazda’s i-ActiveSense suite is standard across the range and includes automatic headlights, wipers, and high beams; lane-departure warning and assist; adaptive cruise control; and forward-collision warning and mitigation. The 360-degree camera and parking sensors are limited to the Signature trim.

The main caveat is the rollover result, which is the one weaker point in an otherwise strong safety record. If safety is a top priority, the CX-5 still looks like a strong choice, but you should pay attention to trim differences if you want the most advanced parking aids.

Should I buy a 2019 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 65.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.92% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Mazda added Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, improved handling, and a turbocharged top-end engine this year.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $16,567, the 2018 costs less than the current year's $18,719 average.
• It offers a more premium-feeling compact crossover with engaging driving manners.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $19,860, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $18,719 average.
• It leans further into premium design, materials, and comfort.

The bottom line: The 2019 is the best all-around pick if you want the updated tech, stronger feature set, and a still-reasonable used price. If you’re more price-sensitive, the 2018 can save you money, while the 2020 is worth considering if you want a slightly newer take and don’t mind paying more.

How does the 2019 Mazda CX-5 compare to the 2019 Honda CR-V?

Our experts score the 2019 Mazda CX-5 8.3/10 and the 2019 Honda CR-V 8/10. The CX-5 is the more engaging choice, with stronger style and a more premium feel. The CR-V counters with a bit more efficiency and more listings to shop from, but the CX-5’s value, safety, and driving experience make it the more rewarding pick for many buyers.
