Introduced in 2017, the F-Pace was Jaguar's first SUV, and it quickly established itself as the automaker's best-selling vehicle. Now in its third year, it continues to get high marks for its stylish exterior design, comfortable interior, expansive cargo space, and sporty handling and performance. It's available in a range of trims, from entry-level Base and mid-level Premium and Prestige to the high-end Portfolio and sport-oriented R-Sport and S trims, as well as the new top-of-the-line SVR, giving buyers a wide choice of engines, features, and performance levels. The F-Pace gains a number of new standard features for 2019 as well as a new high-performance SVR trim powered by a supercharged V8 engine.

Upon its debut, the F-Pace received the World Car Design of the Year award, and it's easy to see why. Its athletic exterior design was borrowed in part from the F-Type sedan, which draws some of its styling cues from the iconic E-Type roadsters of the 1960s and '70s, giving it a distinctive Jaguar look. Among the exterior design highlights are a long sculpted hood, rounded front end, sloping roofline, and low cabin set back on the chassis. Up front, the black mesh grille, large lower intakes, and narrow angular headlights give the F-Pace a sporty, almost sedan-like appearance. Overall, the exterior design is well-balanced and somewhat subtle.

For 2019, Jaguar equips all F-Pace trims with a standard 10-inch touchscreen, which provides access to the automaker's Touch Pro infotainment system. All trims also get a number of new standard safety features, including a reversing camera, front and rear parking aids, emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and a Driver Condition Monitor, which detects drowsiness or fatigue in drivers and sounds an alert. Illuminated treadplates and slimline sport seats with 14-way power adjustment are among the new optional features for 2019. Jaguar also offers a number of new optional safety packs with such advanced features as a 360-degree parking aid, a rear-traffic monitor, blind-spot alert, and adaptive cruise control with a stop-and-go function and steering assist. Finally, gas-powered F-Pace trims get a larger fuel tank for 2019.

The new high-performance SVR trim comes equipped with a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine producing 550 hp and 502 lb-ft of torque. The V8 drives the SVR from 0-60 mph in 4.1 seconds and to a top speed of 176 mph, making it the fastest F-Pace trim currently available. To improve its performance and handling, the SRV rides on a sport-tuned chassis with upgraded shocks and revised spring rates. It also comes equipped with a lightweight specially tuned active exhaust system with a distinctive engine note. Outside, the SVR adds a number of aerodynamic upgrades to the standard design, such as unique front and rear bumpers, lower body sides, and a rear spoiler designed to reduce lift and improve stability. Inside, the SVR gets the new slimline performance seats as a standard feature.

All trims come equipped with a power-operated tailgate and LED taillights, while all but the Base and Premium trims also include HID headlights and LED daytime running lights. The Portfolio, R-Sport, and S add foglights and adaptive HID headlights as standard features. All trims have heated side mirrors, while all but the Base get auto-dimming power-fold mirrors. The Base rides on 18-inch wheels, while the Premium and Prestige upgrade to 19-inch wheels. The Portfolio, R-Sport, and S all roll on 20-inch wheels. Optional wheels up to 22 inches are available in a variety of designs.

A trio of engines, including a high-mileage diesel powerplant, powers the F-Pace. Base power for the Base, Premium, Prestige, and R-Sport trims comes from a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder gas engine capable of 247 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. It drives the F-Pace from 0-60 in 6.4 seconds and to a top speed of 135 mph. The engine links to an 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, which comes as standard equipment on all F-Pace trims. Fuel economy numbers check in at 22 mpg city, 27 highway, and 24 combined. The base turbo 4 is the only gas engine available on the entry-level Base trim.

Buyers who seek a little more power under the hood can equip the Premium, Prestige, and R-Sport trims with a more powerful version of the 2.0-liter turbo 4, which boosts hp to 296 and torque to 295 lb-ft. It propels the F-Type to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds and to a top speed of 145 mph. Fuel economy numbers drop slightly to 22 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined. The Portfolio trim comes equipped with the more powerful turbo 4 as its only engine option. Similarly, the sport-oriented S trim gets a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 as its only engine option. The V6 pumps out a respectable 380 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. The 0-60 time clocks in at 5.1 seconds, while top speed rises to 161 mph. The V6 manages fuel economy numbers of 18/23/20.

Buyers seeking better fuel economy can opt for a 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel powerplant, available on the Premium, Prestige, and R-Sport trims. It generates 180 hp and 318 lb-ft of torque, and mates to the same 8-speed automatic transmission. Although the diesel-driven F-Pace is less powerful than its gas-powered stablemates, reaching 60 mph from a standstill in 8.2 seconds, it offers improved fuel economy numbers of 26 mpg city, 33 mpg highway, and 29 mpg combined.

Like its engines, the F-Pace shares its aluminum-intensive platform with the XE and XF sedans. Designed to reduce weight while ensuring a smooth ride, it ensures sedan-like handling despite the F-Pace's hefty weight of 3,880 to 4,015 pounds, depending on the trim and engine. Each F-Pace comes equipped with the automaker's all-wheel-drive (AWD) system, as well as torque vectoring, which improves stability by automatically applying the brake to the inside front wheel in tight turns. Driver-selectable Normal, Eco, and Dynamic driving modes, as well as a Rain/Snow/Ice mode, make adjustments to the throttle, shift points, and electric power-assisted steering for optimal handling in different types of driving conditions. The S trim adds an Adaptive Dynamics system, which monitors the vehicle's driving dynamics and makes adjustments to improve acceleration, braking, and cornering. The system is available as an option on the Prestige, Portfolio, and R-Sport trims.

Inside the cabin, the F-Pace seats 5 passengers, who will find plenty of room with comfortable seating and good overall fit and finish. Passengers will find several individualized features in higher-end trims, like separate heating and cooling controls for all occupants, making long trips more enjoyable. Cargo space in the trunk measures 33.5 cubic feet, providing plenty of space for daily gear and weekend trips.

In addition to the new 10-inch touchscreen and new safety features, all F-Pace trims come standard with such interior features as a leather-wrapped steering wheel, sliding panoramic roof, power-adjustable seats, auto-dimming rearview mirror, cruise control, and a 380-watt Meridian audio system with HD radio and Bluetooth. The Premium trim adds memory settings for the front seats, while the Prestige upgrades to leather upholstery, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, navigation, and ambient lighting. The Portfolio offers a number of high-end features like 20-way power-adjustable front seats, perforated Windsor upholstery, reclining rear seats, an 825-watt Meridian audio system, and Wi-Fi hotspot capability. The R-Sport and S include 18-way power-adjustable sport seats, perforated leather upholstery with contrast stitching, and bright metal sport pedals, among other features. The Portfolio, R-Sport, and S also get advanced safety features such as blind-spot monitoring with rear-traffic detection. The F-Pace has not been safety-rated by the NHTSA or IIHS.
