Why it stands out
The 2019 Ford Fusion Energi stands out as a plug-in hybrid that Ford clearly used to keep the Fusion relevant in its final stretch. For this year, it gets a mild facelift, and the plug-in hybrid version also gains increased battery capacity, rising from 7.6 kWh to 9.0 kWh thanks to more energy-dense chemistry. That change lifts the stated electric range from 21 to 25 miles, which Ford positions as a direct challenge to the Prius Prime.
What makes the 2019 Fusion Energi especially notable is the addition of Ford’s Co-Pilot360 driver-assistance suite, which comes standard across the range. The package includes blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, automatic high-beams, and a reversing camera. Those features give the car a stronger safety story, and owner feedback also points to a comfortable, quiet ride and good handling. The main tradeoff is practicality: some drivers note that trunk space is reduced by the battery, and others say the electric range does not always meet expectations.

The car gets rated gas mileage maybe a little bit better and does what its supposed to do. It has a quiet confident ride. It has a small trunk due to the battery being in it, but surprisingly you can still pack a fair amount of luggage in it. A overall good hybrid plug-in sedan

Upgraded from a base trim Honda Civic. Love the heated, air conditioned, and leather seats and the plug in hybrid drivetrain. I hear Ford licensed Toyotas prime drivetrain for this. The trunk is 40% battery, and it doesnt always deliver the displayed electric range, but now I fuel up once a month instead of once a week.

How much does the 2019 Ford Fusion Energi cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $15,938 |
| Year-Round Low | $14,683 |
| Year-Round High | $16,314 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $16,318 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −2.33% |
Prices have softened 2.33% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 77 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2019 Ford Fusion Energi a good car?
Yes — the 2019 Ford Fusion Energi earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 8/10.
Owners consistently praise the comfortable cabin, quiet ride, good handling, and decent gas mileage. The overview also points to its plug-in hybrid setup as a practical way to get electric driving for short trips while still keeping long-range flexibility.
With 31.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2019 Ford Fusion Energi reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with drivers repeatedly calling out comfort, quietness, and a car they feel good living with day to day. The expert notes also suggest the Fusion Energi is a car you can count on for long stretches between fuel stops, which supports its practical side as a plug-in hybrid.
The expert review also says the car’s overall range is strong for the class, and the increased battery capacity helps it go farther on electric power than before. Ford’s added tax credit for this year also helps offset some of the ownership cost.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the battery-heavy design can affect trunk space and may not deliver the electric range you expect in every driving situation.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Ford Fusion Energi?
At 66.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, panel alignment, and any signs of prior repair. Because this model’s battery packaging affects practicality, it’s also smart to check the trunk area closely and make sure the car’s condition matches the seller’s description.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Titanium trim is the only trim level mentioned, and it comes with a strong equipment list, but the cabin materials and switchgear are described as less impressive than you might expect for the price.
- Powertrain: The plug-in hybrid setup gains a larger battery this year, and the stated electric range rises to 25 miles. The expert notes that real-world electric range can fall short of that figure in hilly driving, but total range is still strong.
- Safety package: Ford’s Co-Pilot360 suite is standard and includes blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, automatic high-beams, and a reversing camera. You cannot disable the lane-keep feature.
- Infotainment: You get the Sync 3 interface, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a 12-speaker Sony stereo. The system can lag at times, but the smartphone integration is a major plus.
- Fuel efficiency: The expert notes that the car can go nearly a full week before the gas gauge moves much, but no MPG or MPGe figure is stated.
Which 2019 Ford Fusion Energi trim should I buy?
The 2019 Ford Fusion Energi is offered in 1 trim level: Titanium.
Here's the short version:
Titanium: This is the only choice, so your decision is really whether the Fusion Energi’s plug-in hybrid setup, standard Co-Pilot360 safety tech, and well-equipped cabin fit your needs. It’s the best-value trim by default because there isn’t a lower rung to step down to, but you should still weigh the limited trunk space and the mixed value proposition against the equipment you get.
The standard safety package is a major part of the appeal here, and it comes on every example.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Ford Fusion Energi?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to shop carefully and compare listings.
- Deal availability: 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 77 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.33% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 66.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $14,683, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Ford Fusion Energi's resale value?
The current average of $15,938 sits slightly below last year's $16,318.
That downward move suggests the market has softened, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price, you may be able to reduce depreciation risk by starting closer to the lower end of the range.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2019 Ford Fusion Energi safe?
The 2019 Ford Fusion Energi earns an overall five-star rating from NHTSA, with a three-star rating in the front-passenger test and a four-star rating for rollover. It also earns top marks from IIHS except for a Poor headlight result and a Marginal child-seat-anchor rating.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Ford’s Co-Pilot360 suite is standard and includes blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, automatic high-beams, and a reversing camera. One caveat is that you cannot disable the lane-keep system.
The main safety concern is braking performance, which the expert says is worse than average for the class. That means you should pay close attention to tire condition, brake feel, and overall maintenance history when shopping used.
Should I buy a 2019 Ford Fusion Energi or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 66.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.33% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The expert highlights the bigger battery, the 25-mile electric range, and standard Co-Pilot360 as the key year-specific upgrades.
The bottom line: If you want the most up-to-date version of the Fusion Energi’s plug-in hybrid formula, the 2019 is the one to target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, focus on the lowest-priced clean-title examples and make sure the battery, brakes, and history check out before you buy.
