How much does the 2019 BMW 3 Series cost?

Prices have softened 6.81% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,414 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of cars to compare.

Is the 2019 BMW 3 Series a good car?

Yes — the 2019 BMW 3 Series earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating.

The standout strength is Technology at 10/10.

The 3 Series is described as a compact luxury sedan that leans hard into BMW’s traditional sport-sedan formula, with a trim, athletic character and a premium feel. It also benefits from BMW’s stronger software focus for 2019, which gives it a more modern feel while keeping the core personality intact.

That combination makes sense if you want a driver-focused luxury sedan with a polished digital side, even though it faces a crowded field where rivals can undercut it on price. The market shows 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2019 BMW 3 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 3 Series is presented as a familiar, well-regarded luxury sedan with a strong premium character, and the expert review emphasizes that the car itself is still pretty good overall. The powertrain is described as smooth, full of torque, and sweet-sounding, with the 8-speed automatic praised for its shifts and programming.

BMW also includes three years or 36,000 miles of maintenance and four years with unlimited miles of roadside assistance, which helps soften early ownership costs. For used buyers, the bigger long-term risk is that this is still a complex luxury car, so deferred maintenance and neglected electronics can become expensive if you skip a thorough inspection.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 BMW 3 Series?

At 64.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on cars with higher mileage or visible cosmetic wear. Focus on whether the car has been maintained consistently, because this model’s premium hardware and software can be costly to sort out after the fact.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The standard Sport trim is the better value than the M Sport setup if you want to avoid paying for a firmer suspension, staggered summer tires, variable-ratio steering, and a widened body kit.
• Powertrain: The 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 delivers 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, with the 8-speed automatic praised for its smooth, intuitive shifts.
• Safety package: The Driving Assistance Professional Package adds automatic steering around curves, even on two-lane roads, and is described as especially impressive in traffic; blind-spot monitoring, 360-degree cameras, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and Traffic Jam Assist are optional.
• Infotainment: BMW’s iDrive system is highly customizable, updates over the air, and supports wireless Apple CarPlay; the car also offers a digital key and remote camera viewing through the app.
• Fuel efficiency: The 330i xDrive is rated at 25 mpg city, 34 highway, and 28 combined, while the rear-wheel-drive version is rated at 26/36/30.

Which 2019 BMW 3 Series trim should I buy?

The 2019 BMW 3 Series is offered in 2 trim levels: 330i and M340i.

Here's the short version:

• 330i: This is the trim most used shoppers should target. It delivers the core 3 Series experience, including the strong turbocharged four-cylinder, the polished 8-speed automatic, and the car’s standout tech, without pushing you into the much pricier upper end of the lineup.
• M340i: This is the performance step-up, with a twin-turbo 6-cylinder and near-M3 output. It suits you if you want the quickest version and are willing to pay for it, but the source positions it as a more expensive choice rather than the value play.

The safety content notes that the Driving Assistance Professional Package is optional, so check carefully for that equipment if advanced driver assistance matters to you.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 BMW 3 Series?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay disciplined.

• Deal availability: 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,414 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.81% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 64.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $20,179, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 BMW 3 Series's resale value?

The current average of $20,469 sits slightly below last year's $21,964.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment rather than just the badge alone.

Well-kept examples with desirable options should hold up better than neglected ones, especially because this model sits in a crowded segment where buyers have plenty of alternatives. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 BMW 3 Series safe?

The 2019 BMW 3 Series earns a Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety equipment includes forward emergency braking and pedestrian detection, while blind-spot monitoring, 360-degree cameras, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and Traffic Jam Assist are optional. The review also notes that the best crash-test results and the standard braking system help make the 3 Series a strong safety performer.

Should I buy a 2019 BMW 3 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 64.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.81% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Expert summary: BMW’s 2019 software upgrade makes the car feel more modern without losing its core sport-sedan identity.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $23,883, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $20,469 average.
• It adds the M340i, which slots between the 330i and the forthcoming M3.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2019 is the smarter buy because it combines a lower average price with strong tech, solid safety, and broad market availability. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer-year performance step-up, the 2020 is the path to consider.
