How much does the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan cost?

Prices have softened 10.18% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,942 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan earns a 4.73/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Technology.

Owners consistently praise the spacious interior, value for money, luxurious features, and comfortable ride and handling. That lines up with the Tiguan’s practical focus on cargo space, backseat room, and everyday usefulness. If you want a compact SUV that prioritizes space and features over driving excitement, this year’s Tiguan fits that use case well.

36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan reliable?

Owners rate it 4.73/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with praise centered on value, comfort, and a spacious cabin. The expert test-drive notes also frame it as a practical, mainstream compact SUV built around everyday usefulness rather than novelty. Volkswagen’s maintenance perk language is not included in the available data.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that some examples may have been used hard or maintained inconsistently, so condition and service history matter more than the badge.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan?

At 65.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with visible cosmetic wear. Focus on signs of prior body repair, uneven panel gaps, tire wear, and any evidence that safety systems or cameras were disturbed. Because this model emphasizes family use and daily practicality, cabin condition and seat wear are also worth close attention.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base S comes with LED taillights, integrated roof rails, power/heated side mirrors, automatic headlights, trailer hitch preparation, and a 6-speaker stereo with a 6.5-inch touchscreen and Bluetooth. The SE adds keyless access with push-button start, dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, leatherette upholstery, and an 8-inch touchscreen with voice control. The SEL adds remote start, navigation, a panoramic sunroof, adaptive cruise control, and a one-touch power liftgate, while the SEL Premium adds ambient lighting, power-folding side mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, a heated steering wheel, leather seating, and a hands-free power liftgate.
• Powertrain: The Tiguan uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 184 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic and front-wheel drive or 4Motion AWD. The expert notes say acceleration is sluggish in normal driving and improves only when you use Sport mode.
• Safety package: Forward-collision warning with autonomous emergency braking and a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert are optional on the base S trim, but standard on all other trims. The SEL adds adaptive cruise control, and the SEL Premium adds a 360-degree camera, active blind-spot monitor, lane-departure warning system, automatic high beams, and park distance control.
• Infotainment: The SE and higher trims get an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with voice control, while the base S uses a 6.5-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, and the SEL Premium adds the Volkswagen Digital Cockpit.
• Fuel efficiency: The FWD Tiguan is rated at 22 mpg city, 27 highway, and 24 combined. The 4Motion version is rated at 21 city, 27 highway, and 23 combined.

Which 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan trim should I buy?

The 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SE, SEL, and SEL Premium.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Tiguan experience with the 6.5-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, roof rails, and LED taillights. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting price, but note that key driver-assistance features are optional here rather than standard.
• SE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the 8-inch touchscreen, heated front seats, push-button start, dual-zone climate control, and a more upscale cabin feel without jumping to the highest price tiers.
• SEL: Choose this if you want a more premium daily driver, since it adds navigation, adaptive cruise control, a panoramic sunroof, remote start, and a power liftgate.
• SEL Premium: This is the luxury-leaning choice, with leather seating, ambient lighting, a heated steering wheel, power-folding mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, hands-free liftgate access, and the Digital Cockpit.

Forward-collision warning with autonomous emergency braking and blind-spot monitoring are standard on all trims except the base S, where they are optional.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,942 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.18% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 65.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $12,448, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan's resale value?

The current average of $12,448 sits slightly below last year's $13,858.

That price movement suggests the Tiguan has become more affordable for buyers, which can make it a tougher vehicle for sellers to command top dollar in the near term. If you own one, strong condition and a clean history will matter more when it comes time to resell. Well-equipped trims may still hold appeal because shoppers in this segment often value features and space.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.73/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan safe?

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Tiguan comes standard with dual front- and side-impact airbags, side-curtain airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system, electronic stability control, and a reversing camera. Forward-collision warning with autonomous emergency braking and a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert are optional on the base S trim, but standard on all other trims. The SEL adds adaptive cruise control, while the SEL Premium adds a 360-degree camera, active blind-spot monitor, lane-departure warning system, automatic high beams, and park distance control.

Should I buy a 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 65.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.18% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.73/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 model emphasizes cargo space, backseat room, and the option of a third row, while trading away some of the driving excitement that once defined the nameplate.

The bottom line: The 2018 Tiguan makes the most sense if you want a practical compact SUV with strong space, useful features, and a softer used-market price. If you’re especially price-sensitive, a nearby year may also be worth a look, but the 2018 stands out when you want the newer, roomier formula and can find a clean, well-priced example.
