That kind of owner confidence matters if you want a used SUV that should feel reassuring over time. What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Toyota Highlander?

At 62.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can screen for accidents, title issues, and major repairs before you get too far along. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing has higher mileage or incomplete service records. Focus your condition check on signs of prior bodywork, uneven wear, and anything that suggests the SUV has had a harder life than the listing photos imply.

That softer pricing can help you buy more carefully now, but it also suggests future sellers may face some pressure if the market stays loose. A strong ownership record can help you stand out when it is time to list the vehicle.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2018 Toyota Highlander or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 62.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.08% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $20,013, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $21,331 average.
• It adds a refreshed look and standard safety equipment.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-market balance of price, inventory, and owner satisfaction, the 2018 is the better default choice. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2017 is the more budget-friendly path and still keeps the Highlander’s practical appeal.
