CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Toyota C-HR
overall

Summary
With 549 currently listed for sale and an average price of $14,778, 30.2% of 2018 Toyota C-HR listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Toyota C-HR 4.67 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 5.83 / 10.
64.5% of 2018 Toyota C-HR listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Toyota C-HR stands out more for its personality than for traditional subcompact SUV virtues. It was originally a Scion idea, and the description of it as a high-riding sports coupe helps explain why it feels different from more conventional rivals. That character comes with tradeoffs, though: the C-HR is described as short on space, tall on price, and lacking the option of all-wheel drive. It also misses tech features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which makes it feel less complete than many shoppers would expect in this class.
What gives the 2018 Toyota C-HR some appeal is the possibility that its driving dynamics can make up for those shortcomings. The source frames it as a vehicle that asks buyers to value style and handling over utility, and owner feedback echoes that appeal by praising its great handling, unique styling, and comfort. At the same time, the same feedback points to the C-HR’s limitations, including a desire for more performance and the absence of AWD. For buyers drawn to a distinctive look and a more engaging feel, the C-HR offers a different kind of subcompact crossover, even if it sacrifices some of the basics that make the segment so practical.

Nice Car! I really liked the car but I found out in research that all model years have transmission issues.

Exceptional value! I love all the safety features and the very smooth ride. The MPG is great. Its a crossover but it is very spacious and has tons of storage space! Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a crossover. The only thing I wish it had is Apple CarPlay, but I believe that only started to come standard in 2019.

| Year-Round Low | $14,117 |
| Year-Round High | $15,150 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $14,831 |

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.
There are 538 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2018 Toyota C-HR a good car?
Yes — you’re looking at a 4.67/5 user-rated model with an expert rating of 5.83/10. The standout strength is Safety at 8/10.
Owners consistently praise the C-HR’s great handling, unique styling, and comfort, and they also call out its spacious interior and extensive features. In use-case terms, that makes it a better fit if you value personality, a composed driving feel, and everyday comfort more than maximum utility.
The market also shows 31.2% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2018 Toyota C-HR reliable?
Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle you can count on for a satisfying daily experience, with praise for comfort, features, and overall value. The expert evaluation also frames it as a practical, reliable Toyota in spirit, even while noting that it leans more toward style than utility.
The main long-term ownership risk for used buyers is that the C-HR’s appeal depends heavily on whether you can live with its compromises, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Toyota C-HR?
At 64.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the car’s equipment and interior wear match the mileage and asking price.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The XLE emphasizes the C-HR’s style-first personality with 18-inch sport alloy wheels, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, one USB port, and Bluetooth connectivity. The XLE Premium adds fog lights, push-button start, heated front bucket seats, and puddle lights that project the C-HR logo, so it’s the better-equipped choice if you want the most comfort and convenience.
- Powertrain: You get a 2-liter 4-cylinder engine with 144 horsepower and 139 pound-feet of torque, paired with a continuously variable transmission and front-wheel drive only. The engine is described as capable but not especially quick, while the chassis is praised for responsive turn-in, strong braking, and composed handling.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense P is standard, with collision avoidance with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, auto high beams, and adaptive cruise control. The XLE Premium adds a blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert, so base-trim shoppers should note those extra aids are not included there.
- Infotainment: Both trims get a standard 7-inch touchscreen, but there’s no navigation, no Apple CarPlay, and no Android Auto. The system is intentionally basic, so if smartphone integration matters to you, this is a major limitation to weigh.
- Fuel efficiency: The C-HR is rated at 27 mpg city, 31 highway, and 29 combined, and the expert drive observed 28.9 mpg in mixed use.
Which 2018 Toyota C-HR trim should I buy?
The 2018 Toyota C-HR is offered in 2 trim levels: XLE and XLE Premium.
Here's the short version:
- XLE: This is the value play if you want the C-HR’s styling, standard safety tech, and core comfort features without paying extra for convenience upgrades. It gives you the essentials, but you should be comfortable living without the added amenities that make the higher trim feel more complete.
- XLE Premium: This is the best-value trim if you want the most well-rounded version of the C-HR. The added fog lights, push-button start, heated front bucket seats, puddle lights, blind-spot monitor, and rear cross-traffic alert make it the smarter pick for shoppers who plan to keep the car and want more everyday convenience.
Toyota Safety Sense P is standard, and the XLE Premium is the trim that adds the extra blind-spot and rear cross-traffic features.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Toyota C-HR?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.
- Deal availability: 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 538 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 64.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $14,117, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Toyota C-HR's resale value?
The current average of $14,779 sits slightly below last year's $14,831.
That small decline suggests the C-HR has been fairly stable rather than volatile, which is helpful if you’re thinking about future resale. A steady price pattern can make ownership easier to predict, especially if you buy near the market average and keep the car in strong condition.
Because demand tends to follow shopper satisfaction, the model’s 4.67/5 owner rating supports its resale appeal over time.
Is the 2018 Toyota C-HR safe?
The 2018 Toyota C-HR earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense P is standard, with collision avoidance with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, auto high beams, and adaptive cruise control. The XLE Premium adds a blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert, while the base trim still gets a lot of safety technology for the money.
One caveat is that the reversing camera is shown in a tiny screen in the rear-view mirror rather than in the main touchscreen, which feels like a packaging compromise.
Should I buy a 2018 Toyota C-HR or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 64.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2018 stands out for its distinctive styling, strong handling, and standard safety tech, even though it gives up AWD and smartphone integration.
The bottom line: If you want the C-HR’s unique look, standard safety equipment, and a stable used-car market, the 2018 is a reasonable year to target. If you’re price-sensitive, you should still compare carefully against other years and similar crossovers, because the C-HR’s biggest tradeoffs are the same ones that may push you toward a more practical alternative.
