Is the 2018 Toyota 4Runner a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Toyota 4Runner earns a 4.54/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its off-road capability, reliability, style, and durability, and those themes fit the 4Runner’s rugged, body-on-frame character. If you want a midsize SUV that prioritizes toughness and everyday usefulness over car-like refinement, this model year lines up well with that use case. With 33.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, you also have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2018 Toyota 4Runner reliable?

Owners rate it 4.54/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback repeatedly highlights reliability, durability, and a trouble-free ownership experience, which reinforces the 4Runner’s reputation for being a vehicle you can count on. That said, used buyers should still focus on maintenance history and overall condition, since long-term ownership risk is best managed by verifying how the vehicle was cared for.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Toyota 4Runner?

At 61.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can confirm accident records, title status, and service history before you go any further. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing has higher mileage or visible wear. Focus on overall condition, because a rugged SUV can still hide expensive issues if it has been used hard or repaired poorly.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Toyota 4Runner?

This is a moderate market, so you can buy now if the right listing appears, but selective shopping still matters.

• Inventory: There are 1,778 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.97% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $28,206, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?

The current average of $29,058 sits slightly below last year's $29,949.

That modest decline suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy with less pressure today. For a future seller, the current pricing still reflects the 4Runner’s strong reputation, so well-kept examples should remain easier to move than many other used SUVs. If you buy carefully and keep the vehicle in good condition, you’re starting from a position that still supports healthy demand.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.54/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2018 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.97% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.54/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $31,773, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $29,058 average.
• It adds a more modern-feeling cabin and broader everyday comfort.

The bottom line:
Choose the 2018 if you want the better value and are comfortable shopping carefully for condition and history. If you can stretch your budget and want a newer-feeling alternative, the 2019 is the better secondary path, but price-sensitive buyers should focus on the 2018’s stronger value proposition.
