What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Nissan Kicks?

At 68.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of body panels, paint consistency, and signs of prior repair. Because this model is often bought as an affordable commuter, condition can vary a lot from one listing to the next, so it pays to focus on maintenance records, interior wear, and how well the car has been kept overall.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base S comes with 16-inch steel wheels with covers, roof rails, a rear window wiper, automatic headlights, cloth seats, a 6-way manual driver’s seat, a 4-way manual front passenger seat, a 60/40 split-fold rear seat, Bluetooth connectivity, and a standard 7-inch touchscreen. The SV adds 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, push-button start, and a partially digital instrument panel. The SR adds fog lights, LED low beams, a rear spoiler, a dark satin chrome grille accent, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a surround-view camera.
• Powertrain: It uses a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine with 125 horsepower and 115 pound-feet of torque, paired with a continuously variable transmission and front-wheel drive only. It is described as underpowered, but it delivers decent around-town acceleration and EPA estimates of 31 mpg city, 36 highway, and 33 combined.
• Safety package: Automatic emergency braking is standard on every trim. The SV adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while the SR adds a surround-view camera. The standard equipment also includes front and side airbags, a reversing camera, and the Easy-Fill Tire Alert system.
• Infotainment: The standard system uses a 7-inch touchscreen with a straightforward layout and physical buttons. Siri Eyes Free is standard, while Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are added on the SV and SR.
• Fuel efficiency: EPA estimates are 31 mpg city, 36 highway, and 33 combined.

Which 2018 Nissan Kicks trim should I buy?

The 2018 Nissan Kicks is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SV, SR.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry point and can live without the extra convenience and tech features. You still get the core commuter-friendly setup, including the 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, automatic headlights, and standard automatic emergency braking.
• SV: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds push-button start, a partially digital instrument panel, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert without jumping all the way to the top trim.
• SR: This is the trim to choose if you want the most equipment, including fog lights, LED low beams, a rear spoiler, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a surround-view camera.

The safety package is strongest on the SV and SR, since those trims add blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Nissan Kicks?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and pricing softness to make shopping worthwhile if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 429 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.98% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 68.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $11,516, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Nissan Kicks's resale value?

The current average of $11,562 sits slightly below last year's $11,917.

That softer pricing suggests the model has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if the market stays steady. For you, that means the Kicks may be easier to buy at a reasonable price now, but resale gains are likely to depend more on condition, mileage, and trim than on broad market momentum. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should hold up better than neglected ones, especially because shoppers in this segment tend to be value-focused.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Nissan Kicks safe?

The 2018 Nissan Kicks earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

It comes standard with automatic emergency braking, front and side airbags, a reversing camera, and the Easy-Fill Tire Alert system. The SV trim adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while the SR adds a surround-view camera. That means the safety package is strongest once you move above the base trim, especially if you want more parking and lane-change confidence.

Should I buy a 2018 Nissan Kicks or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 68.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.98% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Expert evaluation highlights its strong cost effectiveness and commuter-friendly usefulness.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $11,843, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $11,562 average.
• It adds standard advanced safety features and broadens the appeal for peace-of-mind shoppers.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2018 is the stronger buy because it combines lower pricing with solid owner satisfaction and a healthy deal share. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer model year with added safety appeal, the 2019 is the cleaner alternative.

How does the 2018 Nissan Kicks compare to the 2018 Honda HR-V?

Our experts score the 2018 Nissan Kicks 7.2/10 and the 2018 Honda HR-V 6.7/10. The Kicks is the cheaper buy by a wide margin, and it also delivers better city fuel economy. The HR-V offers more power and more listings, but the Kicks has the stronger accident-free share and a better expert score. If you want the lower-cost commuter, the Kicks makes more sense; if you want more power and are willing to spend more, the HR-V is the alternative.
