Why it stands out
The 2018 Nissan Armada stands out as a large SUV that leans into luxury rather than ruggedness. Nissan returned to the drafting board for 2018 to add some extra technology to the standard features list, and the Armada’s updated approach gives it a more upscale feel than a simple utility vehicle. It is also based on the very capable Patrol, which helps explain why it carries a substantial presence even as its character shifts toward comfort.
That comfort-first personality is part of the Armada’s appeal, especially for buyers who want a spacious family hauler with a smooth ride and a luxury feel. The added technology broadens its appeal further, and owners often praise its roomy cabin and feature content. Its main drawback remains the same off-road capability that drew criticism before, and some drivers also mention fuel economy and road noise, particularly at lower speeds.

This car has a lot of great features. Great value. The tow package is great. I would compare to Ford Excursion.

Very roomy. Great , smooth ride! Lots of bells and whistles, easy to see out of all around. Handles well. Decent value for its group of SUVs and ranks with other luxury SUVs. Downside- dont buy it for the gas mileage although I expected worse averaging 18 city- 24 hwy - more impressive than expected. Would buy again!

Drivers consistently praise the spacious cabin, smooth ride, and luxury feel, and they also like the broad feature set. The Armada’s comfort-first setup makes it a strong fit for families and road trips, especially if you want a large SUV that feels more upscale than purely utilitarian.
That said, the same feedback also points to fuel economy and road noise as recurring drawbacks. Even so, the combination of roomy packaging, comfort, and features makes it appealing if those tradeoffs fit your priorities.
32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.
Is the 2018 Nissan Armada reliable?
Owners rate it 4.64/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Reviewers repeatedly describe it as spacious, comfortable, and a vehicle they enjoy living with over time, which supports the idea that it can be a dependable long-haul choice for the right buyer. The expert notes also frame it as a large SUV that has been transformed into a more luxury-oriented model, with added technology helping it feel more modern and usable.
The performance notes reinforce that it is built around a proven V8-and-automatic setup, and the cost-effectiveness commentary suggests it can serve a wide range of ownership needs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about whether you can live with its fuel use and feature limitations.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Nissan Armada?
At 61.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with visible wear. Focus on condition, because this SUV’s value depends heavily on how well it has been maintained and whether any prior damage was repaired properly.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base SV trim gets an 8-inch touchscreen, HD Radio, NissanConnect, parking sensors front and rear, navigation, a 13-speaker Bose stereo, heated power seats, roof rails, running boards, keyless entry and ignition, and a rear-view camera. The SL adds a 360-degree top-down camera, leather, remote engine start, driver memory functions, auto wipers, and 20-inch wheels, while the Platinum adds front-seat ventilation, a rear entertainment system, power-folding heated mirrors, lane-departure warning and intervention, and an Intelligent Rear View Mirror.
- Powertrain: Every Armada uses a 5.6-liter V8 with a 7-speed automatic transmission. The setup delivers strong power and towing ability, but fuel economy is not a strength, and AWD trims lose 1 mpg across the board.
- Safety package: The Tech Package adds adaptive cruise, blind-spot monitoring and warning, and forward collision warning with avoidance braking front and rear. The base SV cannot access most of the safety features, and lane-departure warning and the Intelligent Rear View Mirror are reserved for the Platinum.
- Infotainment: The Armada uses an 8-inch touchscreen with HD Radio and NissanConnect, but it does not offer Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. OTA capability is not mentioned.
- Fuel efficiency: The Armada is rated at 16 mpg combined, 14 mpg city, and 19 mpg highway in FWD form, and AWD trims lose 1 mpg in each category. The expert also notes that real-world mileage can fall short of estimates.
Which 2018 Nissan Armada trim should I buy?
The 2018 Nissan Armada is offered in 3 trim levels: SV, SL, Platinum.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The SV gives you a lot of standard equipment, but it lacks most of the safety features that matter most in this SUV, and the base setup does not include the more advanced driver-assistance content found higher up the range.
- Sweet-spot trim: The SL is the best value because it adds the 360-degree camera, leather, remote start, driver memory functions, and the Tech Package safety upgrades without jumping all the way to the top trim.
- Premium/top trim: The Platinum is the most luxurious choice, with front-seat ventilation, rear-seat entertainment, power-folding heated mirrors, lane-departure warning and intervention, and the Intelligent Rear View Mirror.
- Off-road trim: The Armada’s off-road capability is not a strong selling point for typical daily drivers, so the higher trims make more sense if you care about comfort and tech.
The SL with the Tech Package is the trim to start with if safety matters most, since it adds the most useful driver-assistance features without forcing you into the most expensive version.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Nissan Armada?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and pricing softness to reward careful shopping.
- Deal availability: 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 992 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.89% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 61.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $16,304.12, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Nissan Armada's resale value?
The current average of $16,301 sits slightly below last year's $18,294.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also limit near-term upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that pricing momentum has softened, so condition and trim will matter even more when it’s time to list.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.64/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Nissan Armada safe?
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
The SL trim with the Tech Package is where you should start when it comes to safety, and thankfully that’s a path with a $300 discount this year, as long as you were planning on a moonroof already. It’s a shame that the base SV trim can’t access most of the safety features and that lane-departure warning and avoidance and the Intelligent Rear View Mirror only come with the Platinum as well—a vehicle this big and burdensome shouldn’t be handicapped when it comes to available safety.
The Tech Package adds adaptive cruise, blind-spot monitoring and warning, and forward collision warning with avoidance braking front and rear. The Platinum also adds lane-departure warning and intervention, plus the Intelligent Rear View Mirror. Braking performance is strong across the lineup, with every Armada stopping from 60 mph in 115 feet.
Should I buy a 2018 Nissan Armada or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 61.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.89% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.64/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- Nissan added extra standard technology and a more upscale feel for this year.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $14,995, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $16,301 average.
- It offers a redesigned cabin with a quieter, more comfortable feel.
The bottom line: If you want the better-equipped, more modern-feeling Armada, the 2018 is the stronger pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2017 is the value alternative and still delivers the Armada’s core comfort and space.
