CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander
overall

Summary
With 322 currently listed for sale and an average price of $11,044, 30.4% of 2018 Mitsubishi Outlanders for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander 4.5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.67 / 10.
60.6% of 2018 Outlander models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander stands out by making up for several shortcomings with up-to-date tech and safety features that modern buyers want. It is not at the front of the SUV pack, and it rides on an old platform that can be traced all the way back to 2005, but it still delivers the kind of features many shoppers are looking for right now.
That appeal is strongest in its latest driver-assistance and infotainment technology, which can make the Outlander easier to overlook despite an uninspiring interior and middling ride quality. For buyers who value connectivity, the ability to hook up an iPhone to Apple CarPlay is a notable advantage.

I like this car, it is a smooth ride, it looks fabulous on the inside and out. I believe it was a good value, for the money and very good miles. I really feel like I got a brand new car. The only thing missing was a restart, but I will be adding that soon. This is my 2nd Mitsubishi Outlander compared to the 2011, I can say that there are lots of improvements on body style, engine and features.

How much does the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $11,005 |
| Year-Round Low | $10,755 |
| Year-Round High | $11,781 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $11,543 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −4.66% |
Prices have softened 4.66% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 319 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander a good car?
Yes — 4.5/5 is a strong user rating for this model year, and the expert rating comes in at 6.67/10. The model scores 8/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.
The Outlander’s appeal is strongest if you want modern connectivity and driver-assistance features in a vehicle that still offers practical family use. The overview and expert notes point to an SUV that is not class-leading in refinement or ride quality, but does deliver the kind of tech many shoppers want right now, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The market also shows 30.7% good or great deals, which suggests there are still some attractive listings if you shop carefully.
Is the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander reliable?
Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The Outlander’s reliability story is helped by its practical, value-focused setup and its long powertrain warranty. The expert notes also point to a vehicle that makes the most of its available equipment, even if the underlying platform is older and the driving experience is not especially polished.
Its 10-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty is a meaningful ownership perk, and that kind of coverage can reduce some long-term risk for used buyers. Even so, you should still pay close attention to maintenance history and overall condition because age and mileage matter on a model built around an older design.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander?
At 61.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage example or one with a lower asking price. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the equipment level matches the trim you think you are buying.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base ES comes with a 7-inch touch screen display, HD radio, Bluetooth connectivity, a USB port, remote keyless entry, and dual-zone climate control, while the SE adds fog lights, a power sunroof, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The LE adds black exterior accents, power-folding side-view mirrors, black roof rails, and blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, while the SEL adds rain-sensing wipers, chrome exterior accents, blind-spot monitoring, lane-change assist, a power liftgate, and standard leather seating. The GT is the range-topping trim with LED headlights, LED fog lights, steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters, and a power sunroof.
- Powertrain: Most trims use a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine with 166 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, paired with a continuously variable transmission and front-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive. The GT uses a 3.0-liter V6 with 224 hp and 215 lb-ft, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive.
- Safety package: Standard safety features include a reversing camera, a full array of airbags, traction control, tire pressure monitoring system, hill-start assist, and active stability control. The SEL Touring Package adds forward-collision mitigation, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams, and the GT Touring package adds the same driver-assistance features.
- Infotainment: The Outlander’s infotainment system includes a 7-inch touch screen display, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.
- Fuel efficiency: The base engine with front-wheel drive is rated at 25 mpg city, 30 highway, and 27 combined. The all-wheel-drive test car does 1 less in each category, and the GT V6 is estimated at 20 mpg city, 27 highway, and 22 combined.
Which 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander trim should I buy?
The 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander is offered in 5 trim levels: ES, SE, LE, SEL and GT.
Here's the short version:
- ES: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Outlander experience at the lowest starting price. It makes sense if you want the most affordable way into the model, but you give up the convenience and tech upgrades found higher up the range.
- SE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the features most buyers will notice right away, including Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, heated front seats, a power sunroof, fog lights, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
- LE: Choose this if you want the blacked-out exterior treatment and the added confidence of blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert. It is more style- and safety-focused than the SE, but it is not as broadly equipped for everyday comfort.
- SEL: This trim adds a more upscale feel with leather seating, a power liftgate, rain-sensing wipers, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-change assist. It is a strong pick if you want a more premium-feeling Outlander without going all the way to the GT.
- GT: This is the top trim, and it is the one to buy if you want the V6 powertrain, standard all-wheel drive, paddle shifters, and the most upscale equipment. It is the right choice if you care most about performance and top-end content rather than value.
The safety-package-equipped Touring versions add forward-collision mitigation, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.
- Deal availability: 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 319 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.66% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 61.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $10,755, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander's resale value?
The current average of $11,005 sits slightly below last year's $11,543.
That decline suggests the Outlander has been losing value at a steady pace, which is useful if you are buying but less favorable if you are planning to sell soon. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that this model year is still priced accessibly, but it does not appear to be holding value especially strongly compared with where it was a year ago.
If you buy well and keep the vehicle in good condition, you can help protect your exit price later. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander safe?
The 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander earns five-star ratings overall from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover, and five-star ratings in side crash.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes a reversing camera, a full array of airbags, traction control, tire pressure monitoring system, hill-start assist, and active stability control. The SEL Touring Package adds forward-collision mitigation, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams, and the GT Touring package adds the same driver-assistance features.
The main caveat is that the most advanced safety tech is tied to the Touring packages, so you should verify whether a used listing includes that equipment before you assume it has the full suite.
Should I buy a 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 61.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.66% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2018 stands out for its up-to-date driver-assistance and infotainment technology, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, even though it rides on an older platform.
The bottom line: The 2018 is the right pick if you want the Outlander’s value, tech, and safety features at a relatively soft used-car price. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can still find appealing listings in this year, but you should compare condition and equipment closely because accident history and trim differences matter a lot here.
