Why it stands out
The 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class stands out because it sits at the top of Mercedes-Benz’s luxury lineup and is built to showcase the brand’s most advanced technology and craftsmanship. In this generation, the car was redesigned with a new aluminum hybrid body shell that cut weight and improved rigidity, and Mercedes said it was the first in the world to exclusively feature LEDs over traditional bulbs, with 500 light units throughout the interior and exterior. It also brought a surround-view camera system that integrated multi-modal radar and ultrasonic sensors, along with selectable ambient lighting and a cabin that made generous use of wood and metal accents.
For 2018, the S-Class received updated engines. The S 550 became the S 560 with a 4.0-liter V8 making 463 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, while a new S 450 joined the lineup with a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 making 362 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. The two-door models got the updated 560 powertrain, but not the V6, and the S 550e and S 600 were dropped. That mix of strong performance, rich equipment, and a broad range of luxury features helps explain why the S-Class has long been considered a benchmark in its class.
Buyers are drawn to the 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class for its opulent interior, smooth performance, and deep feature content, and owners often praise the craftsmanship and spacious cabin. The tradeoff is that it remains an expensive car to buy and own, and its size can make it harder to maneuver than smaller luxury sedans.

| Year-Round Low | $33,605 |
| Year-Round High | $37,031 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $37,049 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −7.94% |

There are 677 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.
Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class a good car?
Yes — the 4.8/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise the luxurious interior, advanced technology, smooth performance, high-quality craftsmanship, and spacious cabin, which fits well if you want a flagship luxury sedan with a quiet, opulent feel and a strong mix of comfort and performance. With 34.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, you also have a decent chance of finding a competitive price.
Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The user feedback points to a car that feels refined, dependable, and well built over time, with owners especially appreciating the craftsmanship and smooth driving experience. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about day-to-day satisfaction and more about the cost and complexity that can come with keeping a flagship luxury sedan in top shape.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class?
At 64.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage or repeated claims. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially on a luxury sedan where repairs can be expensive if hidden issues show up later. Focus your condition check on signs of wear, uneven panel fit, and anything that suggests the car may have been used hard or repaired poorly.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer's market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile opportunities.
- Deal availability: 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 677 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.94% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 64.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $33,605, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class's resale value?
The current average of $34,107 sits slightly below last year's $37,049.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also limit short-term upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key is to buy well and keep the car in excellent condition, because a luxury sedan's resale value depends heavily on how cleanly it presents and how well it has been maintained. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:

- At 64.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.94% compared with last year.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2018 if you want a well-liked flagship luxury sedan with strong owner satisfaction and a softer used-car price than it had a year ago. If you're especially price-sensitive, a nearby model year may be worth comparing, but the 2018 remains a compelling choice when you find a clean, well-priced example.
