CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS

Summary
With 990 currently listed for sale and an average price of $21,666, 33.1% of 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLSs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS 4.8 / 5 stars.
65.5% of 2018 GLS models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS stands out as a large luxury SUV that emphasizes comfort, space, and a premium feel. It offers three rows of seating for six or seven people, up to 94 cubic feet of cargo space, and a cabin that blends the comfort and space of a Mercedes-Benz S-Class luxury sedan with some off-road capability. That combination makes it appealing to buyers who want a family-focused SUV without giving up the brand’s upscale character.
For 2018, Mercedes-Benz dropped the GLS350d from the lineup, and the GLS450 received a new wheel design. The GLS450 came with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 with 362 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, along with standard equipment that included 19-inch wheels, Airmatic air suspension, a backup camera, forward emergency braking, Attention Assist, dual-zone climate, a sunroof, heated front seats with MB-Tex upholstery, burl walnut trim, power-folding third-row seats, auto-dimming and power-folding mirrors, an eight-inch touchscreen, HD Radio, and five years of mbrace Connect apps and remote connectivity. Those features help explain why the GLS feels well equipped even in its earlier form.
The GLS also has a practical side that owners tend to appreciate, especially its easy-to-use technology and comfort. At the same time, it is not without drawbacks: access to the third row can be a challenge, and touch-sensing controls are a common complaint. Even so, the 2018 GLS remains distinctive for buyers who want a roomy, upscale three-row SUV with strong luxury credentials and a broad list of standard equipment.

Unbelievable vehicle. Has every electronic feature you can imagine, plus a few you cant. Driving it is like floating on a magic carpet. Way more power than I need. Most comfortable car Ive ever owned. All in all I couldnt be happier.

The only improvements would be to add a phone charger somewhere other than just in the storeage console.. I would also prefer a roach screen for the navigation system. Other than those additions, I love it!

Thought it would have been more spacious, but the volume was added behind the driver’s seat. The front of the vehicle is the size of a GLE Class, 5 passenger vehicle.

Prices have softened 13.66% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 987 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
If you find a listing below $21,492.03, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS a good car?
Yes — the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS earns a 4.8/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its luxurious features, comfort, and performance, and they also like the power it delivers along with the electronic features that improve the driving experience. For you, that means this model makes the most sense if you want a large luxury three-row SUV that prioritizes comfort, space, and a premium feel over a more modern or more compact setup. 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, especially if you value comfort, power, and a well-equipped cabin. The recurring praise for its luxury features and electronic features suggests that many owners have found it trouble-free enough to recommend. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the overall ownership experience and more about making sure the specific vehicle you choose has been maintained properly.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS?
At 64.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from ones with accident records. After that, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on a luxury SUV where repair costs can add up quickly if something has been neglected. Focus your attention on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the vehicle’s features and electronics operate as expected.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and disciplined.

What is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS's resale value?
The current average of $21,551 sits slightly below last year's $24,960.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you can reduce the impact of depreciation later. The strongest resale outcomes usually come from examples that are well maintained, cleanly documented, and priced in line with market demand.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 64.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.66% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2018 if you want a luxury three-row SUV with strong owner approval, a softer price than last year, and enough inventory to shop selectively. If you’re especially price-sensitive, a nearby model year may be worth comparing, but the 2018 is the better starting point when you want a balance of value, satisfaction, and market availability.
