How much does the 2018 Mazda CX-5 cost?

Prices have softened 4.30% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,968 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2018 Mazda CX-5 a good car?

Yes — 4.6/5 from owners, and the expert rating is 8.2/10. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10. Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, great features, stylish interior, safety features, and on-road performance. For you, that means this CX-5 fits especially well if you want a compact crossover that feels polished and engaging rather than purely utilitarian. The market also shows 35.5% of listings as good or great deals, which supports the value case.

Is the 2018 Mazda CX-5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner feedback points to a dependable-feeling package with a smooth ride, strong feature content, and safety features that inspire confidence. The expert drive notes also emphasize a well-balanced, enjoyable SUV with a quiet cabin and a transmission that makes the CX-5 feel zippy in town and composed on hills. If you’re shopping used, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the specific vehicle you choose has been cared for well, especially given the cabin-space and cosmetic concerns some owners mention.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Mazda CX-5?

At 63.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, paint quality, and signs of prior repair, since owner feedback mentions paint flaking on certain colors. It also helps to compare trim equipment carefully so you know whether the features you want are actually present.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring each step up in style and equipment, with the Grand Touring presenting the most upscale cabin feel and the strongest premium impression.
• Powertrain: A 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine is the only engine mentioned, with 187 horsepower and a standard 6-speed automatic; AWD is available, and the setup is tuned to feel lively and responsive.
• Safety package: The i-ActiveSense suite includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and more. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and Smart City Brake Support are standard, though some features vary by trim.
• Infotainment: Mazda Connect uses a freestanding screen that works as a touchscreen only when parked, with control via console inputs, steering-wheel controls, and voice commands. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not mentioned, while navigation and a premium Bose sound system are available on higher trims.
• Fuel efficiency: The AWD version is described as getting 26 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2018 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?

The 2018 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 3 trim levels: Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core CX-5 experience at the lowest price. It suits you if you want the style, driving feel, and standard safety basics without paying for extra luxury touches.
• Touring: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more comfort and convenience without jumping all the way to the top price. It’s the trim to target if you want a more complete daily-driver setup.
• Grand Touring: This is the most upscale version, with the richest cabin presentation and the strongest premium feel. Choose it if you want the most polished CX-5 experience and are willing to pay for it.

The safety package includes i-ActiveSense features, with availability varying by trim level.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Mazda CX-5?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and deal activity to make comparison shopping worthwhile.

• Deal availability: 35.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,968 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.30% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 63.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $16,178, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Mazda CX-5's resale value?

The current average of $16,502 sits slightly below last year's $17,243.

That softer pricing suggests the CX-5 has become a bit more buyer-friendly in the used market, which can help you if you’re shopping now. For a future seller, it means you should expect value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim rather than assuming the market will reward every example equally. Well-kept listings with desirable equipment should still draw attention, but the broader trend points to a market that has eased from last year’s level.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Mazda CX-5 safe?

The 2018 Mazda CX-5 earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS and a four-star overall rating from NHTSA because of a four-star performance in the rear-seat side-impact test.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The CX-5 includes the i-ActiveSense suite, with adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and more. Every CX-5 also has standard blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, Smart City Brake Support, and E911 emergency notification service. One caveat is that the headlights are rated Acceptable rather than Good by IIHS, which keeps it from earning Top Safety Pick+.

Should I buy a 2018 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 35.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 63.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.30% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It delivers a premium-feeling cabin and engaging driving dynamics with strong value.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $16,016, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $16,502 average.
• It offers a sporty, upscale feel with engaging driving manners.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $18,597, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $16,502 average.
• It adds Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and stronger turbocharged top trims.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, style, and satisfaction, the 2018 is the primary pick. If you’re more price-sensitive, the 2017 can save you money while keeping the CX-5’s core appeal. If you want newer tech and stronger top-end power, the 2019 is the better upgrade path.
