How much does the 2018 Mazda CX-5 cost?

Prices have softened 4.25% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,891 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2018 Mazda CX-5 a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Mazda CX-5 earns a 4.6/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, great features, and stylish interior. They also highlight the safety features and on-road performance, which fits a compact crossover that aims to feel more premium and engaging than the average SUV.

If you want a compact crossover that blends style, sophistication, and driving enjoyment, this model year lines up well with that use case. With 34.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, you also have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2018 Mazda CX-5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable-feeling package, with praise for the smooth ride, strong feature content, and overall satisfaction with the vehicle’s day-to-day character. The expert evaluation also describes it as a compact crossover that feels polished and enjoyable to drive, which supports the sense that it’s a vehicle you can count on over time.

The main long-term ownership risk for used buyers is making sure the specific example you choose has been cared for well, especially given the possibility of cosmetic or condition-related issues.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Mazda CX-5?

At 62.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the cabin and exterior match the seller’s description. Because some owners mention paint flaking on certain colors, it’s worth paying close attention to finish quality and visible wear.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring each add more upscale equipment as you move up, with the Grand Touring standing out for its more premium cabin presentation and added convenience content. The base trim is the one most likely to leave you wanting more if you care about a richer interior and broader feature set.
• Powertrain: Every version uses a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic and available front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The setup is tuned for balanced, enjoyable driving rather than maximum power, and the transmission is described as making good use of the engine.
• Safety package: The i-ActiveSense suite includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and more. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard, though some i-ActiveSense content varies by trim level.
• Infotainment: Mazda Connect uses a freestanding screen, with touchscreen operation only when parked and rotary-controller operation while driving. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not included, and navigation plus a premium Bose sound system are optional on Touring and standard on Grand Touring.
• Fuel efficiency: The AWD version is rated at 26 mpg in combined driving, and the test loop returned 24.7 mpg.

Which 2018 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?

The 2018 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 3 trim levels: Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core CX-5 driving experience with the standard 2.5-liter engine, front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and the model’s stylish design. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and are comfortable giving up some of the richer cabin and tech content.
• Touring: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds more equipment without jumping all the way to the top trim. It’s the trim to focus on if you want a better balance of features and price.
• Grand Touring: This is the most upscale version, with the richest cabin presentation and the strongest feature content in the lineup. Choose it if you want the most premium-feeling CX-5 and are willing to pay more for it.

The safety package content varies by trim level, so verify exactly which i-ActiveSense features are included on the specific vehicle you’re considering.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Mazda CX-5?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile opportunities.

• Deal availability: 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,891 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.25% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 62.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $16,187, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Mazda CX-5's resale value?

The current average of $16,614 sits slightly below last year's $17,352.

That decline suggests the market has eased, which can help you buy at a more favorable point if you plan to keep the vehicle for a while. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle has been maintained.

Because the CX-5 has a strong reputation for owner satisfaction, well-kept examples should continue to attract interest from used buyers. That helps support resale value over time, even in a softer pricing environment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Mazda CX-5 safe?

The 2018 Mazda CX-5 earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS and a four-star overall rating from NHTSA because of a four-star performance in the rear-seat side-impact test.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Every 2018 CX-5 has standard blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. Mazda also includes its i-ActiveSense suite as standard or optional depending on trim level, with adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist among the highlights. The standard Mazda Connect system also includes E911 emergency notification service, and Smart City Brake Support is standard.

One caveat is that the headlights are rated Acceptable rather than Good by IIHS, which keeps the CX-5 from earning the higher Top Safety Pick+ designation.

Should I buy a 2018 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 62.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.25% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Mazda’s premium-leaning design and engaging driving character make this year feel especially polished.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $15,958, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $16,614 average.
• It emphasizes a sporty, upscale feel with a fun-to-drive personality.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $18,818, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $16,614 average.
• It adds Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, improved handling, and a turbocharged top-end option.

The bottom line: The 2018 is the right pick if you want the CX-5’s premium feel, strong owner satisfaction, and a softer used-car price than the 2019. If your priority is saving money, the 2017 is the better value play; if you want newer tech and more power, the 2019 is worth the extra spend.
