Is the 2018 Lexus IS a good car?

Generally — the 2018 Lexus IS earns a 4.4/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers commonly praise its smooth ride, stylish design, sporty feel, and strong power, while the compact footprint and premium cabin help it fit buyers who want a fun-to-drive luxury sedan. Is the 2018 Lexus IS reliable?

Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback points to a car that feels dependable in everyday use, with owners highlighting its smooth ride and overall positive ownership experience. That kind of feedback matters if you want a used luxury sedan you can count on over time. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the specific car you choose has been maintained well and has not picked up hidden wear from prior use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Lexus IS?

At 47.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can confirm accident records, title status, and ownership patterns before you commit. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially on body condition, alignment, and signs of prior repair work. Because the model is compact and sporty, you should also pay close attention to interior wear and overall condition, not just mileage.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Lexus IS?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 489 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.15% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 47.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,520, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Lexus IS's resale value?

The current average of $22,601 sits slightly below last year's $23,337.

That price movement suggests the model has softened a bit, which can help you as a buyer now but may also mean future resale gains are more limited if the market stays soft. If you plan to sell later, buying at the lower end of the range gives you a better chance of protecting your value. Strong owner satisfaction can help support demand when it is time to trade in or list the car privately.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2018 Lexus IS or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 47.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.15% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2018 if you want a well-equipped compact luxury sedan with strong owner satisfaction and a softer used-car price than it had a year ago. If your priority is maximizing value and you are willing to shop more selectively, a different year may be worth comparing, but the 2018 remains a sensible choice when you find a clean example at the right price.
