How much does the 2018 Jeep Compass cost?

Prices have softened 9.41% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,098 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2018 Jeep Compass a good car?

Generally — the 2018 Jeep Compass earns a 4.36/5 user rating and a 7/10 expert rating, which points to broad owner satisfaction and solid overall execution. The model scores 8/10 across Form and function, Technology, and Safety.

Owners repeatedly praise its smooth ride, value for money, and 4x4 capability, while also highlighting its interior upgrades and feature content. In practical terms, that makes it a good fit if you want a small SUV that leans into Jeep character, offers useful everyday comfort, and still brings some trail-friendly versatility.

The market also looks reasonably supportive, with 31.7% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2018 Jeep Compass reliable?

Owners rate it 4.36/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that many people find dependable enough to live with day to day, especially because they value its smooth ride, value, and 4x4 capability. The expert drive notes also describe it as well rounded and well suited for daily driving, which reinforces the sense that it can be a practical long-term companion.

If you want a used Compass, the main ownership risk is not catastrophic unreliability so much as making sure you buy one that has been maintained well and still feels strong in everyday use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Jeep Compass?

At 62.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of body panels, alignment, and signs of prior repair. Because this model is often bought for its versatility and 4x4 capability, it also makes sense to focus on how well the drivetrain, brakes, and interior features have held up in real use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Sport trim comes standard with a reversing camera, push-button start, Bluetooth connectivity, 6 speakers, and a 5-inch Uconnect touchscreen display. The Latitude adds automatically activating headlights, integrated roof rails, 17-inch aluminum wheels, chrome interior finish, ambient LED lighting, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. The Limited adds leather seating, heated and ventilated front seats, an 8-way power driver’s seat, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, and the larger 8.4-inch Uconnect display. The Trailhawk adds skid plates, off-road tires, unique 17-inch wheels, red tow hooks, a blacked-out hood, and unique badging and grille.
• Powertrain: Only one engine is offered, a 2.4-liter inline 4-cylinder with 180 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque. You can get front-wheel drive or available four-wheel drive, with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic on FWD models and an available 9-speed automatic with 4WD.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes 7 airbags, all-speed traction control, stability control, the LATCH child-seat anchoring system, hill-start assist, rain brake assist, electronic roll mitigation, electronic stability control, hill descent control, a reversing camera with active guidelines, and a trailer-sway damping system. Forward-collision warning and avoidance are available, as are lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, automatic high beams, and Park Sense.
• Infotainment: Sport and Latitude models use a 5-inch Uconnect touchscreen with voice control and Bluetooth. A 7-inch Uconnect touchscreen is available on Sport and Latitude and adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. An 8.4-inch touchscreen is standard on Trailhawk and Limited and available on Latitude with the Navigation package.
• Fuel efficiency: The 4WD model with the 9-speed automatic returned 22 mpg city, 30 highway, 25 combined. The 4WD model with the 6-speed automatic or 6-speed manual gets 22 mpg city, 31 highway, 25 combined, while the FWD model returns 23 city, 32 highway, 26 combined.

Which 2018 Jeep Compass trim should I buy?

The 2018 Jeep Compass is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, Latitude, Trailhawk, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the value-focused starting point, and it gives you the core Compass experience with the reversing camera, push-button start, Bluetooth, 6 speakers, and the 5-inch Uconnect screen. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and can live without the nicer cabin touches and larger screens.
• Latitude: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds useful everyday upgrades like automatic headlights, roof rails, 17-inch wheels, ambient lighting, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. It builds on the Sport without pushing you too far upmarket.
• Trailhawk: Choose this if you want the most trail-focused version, since it adds skid plates, off-road tires, unique wheels, tow hooks, and Rock Mode with Hill Descent Control. It is the trim to target if off-pavement capability matters most.
• Limited: This is the upscale choice, with leather seating, heated and ventilated front seats, an 8-way power driver’s seat, and the larger 8.4-inch Uconnect display. It suits you best if comfort and cabin features matter more than rugged styling.

The safety package is broad, but forward-collision warning and avoidance remain available rather than standard.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Jeep Compass?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and enough deal activity to make comparison shopping worthwhile.

• Deal availability: 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,098 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.41% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 62.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $13,268, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Jeep Compass's resale value?

The current average of $13,268 sits slightly below last year's $14,646.

That softer pricing suggests the Compass has become more approachable for used buyers, but it also means future sellers may face a market that is still adjusting downward. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you can help protect your position when it is time to sell.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.36/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Jeep Compass safe?

The 2018 Jeep Compass earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

It comes standard with 7 airbags, all-speed traction control, stability control, hill-start assist, rain brake assist, electronic roll mitigation, hill descent control, a reversing camera with active guidelines, and trailer-sway damping. Forward-collision warning and avoidance are available, along with lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, automatic high beams, and Park Sense.

That means you get a strong baseline of safety hardware, but some of the more advanced driver-assistance features are still optional rather than standard.

Should I buy a 2018 Jeep Compass or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 62.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.41% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.36/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 brings a newer second-generation design with strong value positioning and useful off-road capability.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $11,268, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $13,268 average.
• It aims to blend everyday comfort with real off-road ability.

The bottom line: If you want the better-balanced buy, the 2018 is the stronger choice because it combines newer design, solid owner satisfaction, and a more favorable current market. If your top priority is spending less upfront, the 2017 can still make sense, especially if you find one in good condition and do not mind giving up some of the newer-year appeal.
