CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Honda Civic Hatchback

Summary
With 934 currently listed for sale and an average price of $17,396, 33.1% of 2018 Honda Civic Hatchback listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Honda Civic Hatchback 4.5 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2018 Honda Civic Hatchback stands out as the return of Honda’s hatchback to the U.S. Civic lineup after a long hiatus, and it arrived with a distinctly modern feel. It was offered with two turbocharged powertrains, came in five trims, and paired practicality with sporty European-inspired styling. Standard equipment on the base LX included automatic climate control, a rear-view camera, a folding rear seat, a four-speaker AM/FM audio system with a USB port, and a 5-inch infotainment screen. Available features included remote start, a moonroof, 60/40-split folding rear seats, a 7-inch infotainment screen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, leather seats, heated front and rear seats, navigation, blind-spot monitors, dual-zone automatic climate controls, and a power driver’s seat.
For buyers, the appeal is the mix of utility and driving enjoyment. The hatchback body gives it more versatility than a sedan, while the available manual transmission on some trims adds to its enthusiast appeal. The 174-hp 1.5-liter turbo and the 180-hp 1.5-liter turbo give the car a stronger performance edge than a basic commuter, and the 2020 refresh brought revised styling and added sound insulation along with improved feature packaging. Safety is another strength: the Honda Sensing suite was optional at launch, and the 2017, 2020, and 2021 models received a Top Safety Pick designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety with Good crash test scores across the board.
There are a few drawbacks to keep in mind. The base LX and Sport trims used the 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine in later years, but for this 2018 model year the hatchback’s lineup was still centered on the turbocharged setup, and the broader generation has known issues including infotainment glitches, air conditioning condenser failures, oil dilution in the turbo engine, and “sticky” electric power steering. Even so, the 2018 Honda Civic Hatchback remains appealing because it combines everyday practicality, strong feature content, and a fun-to-drive character in a compact package.

Reviewed a 2018 Honda Civic Hatchback on Apr 17, 2021
Lets start with the obvious, this car looks amazing. I prefer red but the black and blue also look very nice. The interior doesnt slack either. Its very sleek. The seats are comfortable but I feel like Honda could have gone with a more bolstered feel like the si and type R, but they still look and feel amazing, especially on cold days with the super toasty seat warmers. In 1st gear the acceleration is a little slow, but after 3k rpm, the power really kicks in and it takes off. It sounds ok, definitely would have preferred an exhaust system with some rumble to it. All of the features are pretty solid, though Im a bit disappointed that there isnt an interface to see tire pressure for each tire. Instead you get the basic low tire pressure light with no indication which tire it is. For the top model in this line, youd think it would have all the features, but it doesnt. The infotainment is pretty standard, definitely would have liked something better than what feels like a $200 android tablet from Walmart. The sound system is pretty awesome. Feels like its missing some bass, but overall it sounds fantastic. Theres no cabin noise like you get on the sport and base model, so that was a relief. The right lane camera and back up camera are nice to have, tho the resolution is pretty low, still does a good job. Theres plenty of cargo space, especially when you lower the rear seats. They ALMOST lay flat with the hatch bed. Overall its a very good vehicle. Its comfortable, stylish, fast, loaded with features, and it feels safe.

There are 943 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.
Is the 2018 Honda Civic Hatchback a good car?
Yes — the 4.5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its stylish design, great handling, and spacious interior, and many also like the driving experience and fuel efficiency. For you, that means this hatchback fits especially well if you want a practical compact car with a more engaging feel than a basic commuter. With 33.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some attractive opportunities.
Is the 2018 Honda Civic Hatchback reliable?
Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback highlights reliability alongside praise for performance, spaciousness, and a smooth driving experience. That said, some drivers mention infotainment frustrations and a few broader ownership concerns tied to this generation, so a careful pre-purchase inspection still matters. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is buying a car with unresolved wear or known issues that could affect ownership costs later.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Honda Civic Hatchback?
At 50.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. Put extra inspection priority on body panels, alignment, and signs of uneven wear, since those can reveal past collision work. It also makes sense to focus on overall condition and maintenance records, especially if you want to avoid surprises after purchase.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Honda Civic Hatchback?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the best listings.
- Deal availability: 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 943 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.56% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 50.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $16,699, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Honda Civic Hatchback's resale value?
The current average of $17,376 sits slightly below last year's $18,018.
That decline suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. If you plan to sell later, the current pricing trend means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the car has been maintained. A clean history and strong presentation will matter more when the market is already showing some softness.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Honda Civic Hatchback or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 50.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.56% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $16,193, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $17,376 average.
- It offers the hatchback’s practical, fun-to-drive appeal with extra cargo space.
The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2018 if you want the stronger current-market mix of satisfaction, pricing, and availability. If your priority is saving money upfront, the 2017 is the better value path, especially if you find one with a clean history and solid condition.
