CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Honda CR-V
Summary
With 4,935 currently listed for sale and an average price of $18,664, 33.2% of 2018 Honda CR-V listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Honda CR-V 4.73 / 5 stars.
62.4% of 2018 Honda CR-V listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Honda CR-V sits in the fifth-generation run of Honda’s compact crossover, and its appeal starts with the basics it shares across the lineup: a five-passenger layout, a choice of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and Honda’s reputation for practicality. This generation brought bolder styling than before, along with more rear legroom and cargo space, plus chassis revisions aimed at improving ride, handling, and braking. For shoppers who want a small SUV that feels roomy and easy to live with, those are major strengths.
The 2018 model also benefits from the broader equipment and efficiency story of this generation. The turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine was rated at 190 horsepower, and Honda said it could return up to an estimated 34 mpg on the highway. Honda Sensing safety technology was available more broadly in this generation, and the CR-V’s usability was helped by a simple physical volume knob for the touchscreen audio system. At the same time, this is not the most exciting vehicle to drive, and its styling is more functional than distinctive, so buyers are choosing it more for comfort, space, and value than for personality.
Owners’ feedback lines up with that character. They commonly praise the CR-V for its value, comfort, spacious interior, good gas mileage, and useful tech, while some note that it can feel expensive and may miss a few convenience features they expected.

How much does the 2018 Honda CR-V cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $18,689 |
| Year-Round Low | $18,186 |
| Year-Round High | $19,320 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $19,325 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −3.29% |
Prices have softened 3.29% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 4,876 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing prices and trims.
Is the 2018 Honda CR-V a good car?
Yes — the 4.73/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise the CR-V for its value, comfort, spacious interior, good gas mileage, and useful tech. That lines up well with its role as a five-passenger compact crossover that prioritizes practicality, roominess, and easy day-to-day use over flash. With 34.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitive offer if you shop carefully.
Is the 2018 Honda CR-V reliable?
Owners rate it 4.73/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also emphasizes dependable ownership traits such as value, comfort, and good gas mileage, which are the kinds of qualities buyers often associate with trouble-free daily use. For used shoppers, that suggests the bigger risk is less about the model’s reputation and more about how well a specific example has been maintained over time.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Honda CR-V?
At 62.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, especially if a listing looks unusually well priced. Put inspection priority on bodywork, panel alignment, and signs of prior repair, then confirm that the interior, electronics, and mechanical condition match the seller’s description. Because this model is often chosen for comfort and practicality, you’ll want to focus on overall condition and maintenance quality rather than just mileage alone.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Honda CR-V?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay disciplined.
- Deal availability: 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 4,876 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.29% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 62.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $18,186, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Honda CR-V's resale value?
The current average of $18,689 sits slightly below last year's $19,325.
That softer pricing can help you buy more carefully now, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays steady. For a seller, the current trend suggests you should expect value retention rather than appreciation, so condition and documentation matter a lot. A clean history and strong maintenance record can help your CR-V stand out when it’s time to resell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.73/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Honda CR-V or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 62.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.29% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.73/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $17,363, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $18,689 average.
- The redesign emphasizes a strong all-around package with standout practicality.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $20,609, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $18,689 average.
- It adds a refined, roomy, and historically reliable feel with broad everyday appeal.
The bottom line: The 2018 is the best fit if you want a well-liked, practical CR-V at a softer price than last year. If you’re more price-sensitive, the 2017 is the value play; if you want to spend more for a newer-feeling option with a stronger premium lean, the 2019 is the upgrade path.
