How much does the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 cost?

Prices have softened 7.11% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,011 listings available, which suggests you have a solid pool of used trucks to compare.

Is the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 a good car?

Generally — 4.4/5 from owners and 8.2/10 from experts point to a truck that lands well with shoppers. You get a strong mix of smooth ride quality, a luxurious feel, excellent features, and a comfortable interior, along with useful power and fuel efficiency. The Sierra 1500 also fits buyers who want a truck that feels more like a family vehicle than a purely utilitarian tool, and the standard infotainment and reversing camera help its value story. 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a truck that many people find dependable enough to live with every day, with praise centered on its smooth ride, comfortable cabin, and strong overall appeal. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the Sierra 1500 is a capable, well-rounded pickup that can handle daily use and work duties. If you’re shopping used, the main long-term ownership risk is that some examples may have been affected by the engine-performance or transmission concerns mentioned by owners, so condition and service history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 GMC Sierra 1500?

At 67.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection is worth prioritizing, especially on trucks with higher mileage or incomplete service records. Focus on overall condition, signs of hard use, and whether the truck’s equipment matches the trim you expect.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Base truck comes standard with Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, a 6-speaker stereo, power locks, a power tailgate, a tire pressure monitoring system, and a 7-inch touchscreen, while higher trims add more comfort and convenience features.
• Powertrain: Four engines are available, including a 4.3-liter V6, a 5.3-liter V8, a 5.3-liter V8 with eAssist, and a 6.2-liter V8; the most efficient setups are the 4.3-liter V6 and the 5.3-liter V8 with eAssist.
• Safety package: The Enhanced Driver Alert Package is available on the SLE and SLT and standard on the Denali; it includes forward-collision alert, automatic high-beam control, lane-departure warning, and front and rear parking sensors.
• Infotainment: IntelliLink is standard across the lineup, with a 7-inch screen on the Base trim and an 8-inch touchscreen on other trims; Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.
• Fuel efficiency: The most efficient engines return 18 miles per gallon city, 24 highway, 20 combined.

Which 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 is offered in 4 trim levels: Sierra 1500, SLE, SLT, and Denali.

Here's the short version:

• Sierra 1500: This is the value-focused starting point, and it already gives you standard Bluetooth, a 6-speaker stereo, power locks, a power tailgate, a tire pressure monitoring system, a 7-inch touchscreen, and standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and can live without the extra comfort features.
• SLE: This trim adds satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and the larger 8-inch IntelliLink screen, while also opening up more options packages. It’s the best-value choice if you want a more modern-feeling cabin without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• SLT: This is the comfort step-up, with leather seating, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, and the standard 5.3-liter V8. It suits you if you want a more upscale daily driver and are willing to pay for it.
• Denali: This is the luxury trim, with heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a 7-speaker Bose stereo, navigation, wireless charging, and unique Denali headrest embroidery. It’s the right pick if you want the most premium Sierra experience.

The Enhanced Driver Alert Package is available on the SLE and SLT and standard on the Denali.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 GMC Sierra 1500?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,011 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.11% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 67.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $25,816, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500's resale value?

The current average of $25,816 sits slightly below last year's $27,793.

That price movement suggests the Sierra 1500 has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right number. A softer market today can also make it easier to find a clean truck at a fair price, but it means you should be realistic about how much value it may lose from here. Well-equipped examples with strong condition and desirable features should hold up better than rougher trucks with missing equipment or questionable history.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 safe?

The 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The Sierra 1500 comes standard with a reversing camera with dynamic guidelines, six airbags, StabiliTrak stability control, the LATCH child-seat anchoring system, and Easy Fill Alert for the tire pressure monitoring system. The Enhanced Driver Alert Package adds forward-collision alert, automatic high-beam control, lane-departure warning, and front and rear parking sensors, and it is available on the SLE and SLT and standard on the Denali. That means lower trims miss some of the advanced driver-assistance equipment unless you move up or choose the right package.

Should I buy a 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 67.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.11% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 adds standard infotainment and a reversing camera, strengthening its value story.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $30,822, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $25,816 average.
• It was completely redesigned for a bigger, more capable, more useful package.

The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2018 is the smarter buy because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction and useful standard equipment. If you’re willing to spend more for a full redesign, the 2019 is the cleaner upgrade path.
