CarGurus Analysis: 2018 GMC Acadia
overall

Summary
With 2,627 currently listed for sale and an average price of $15,496.00, 29.0% of 2018 GMC Acadia models for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 GMC Acadia 4.79 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.17 / 10.
60.9% of 2018 Acadia models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 GMC Acadia stands out as a three-row crossover that became more versatile when V6 power was made available to more trims. That matters because the Acadia had already been lightened significantly, and the result was improved handling, braking, and fuel economy, along with a bit more towing capacity and third-row legroom. For buyers who want a family-friendly crossover with a more capable feel, those changes help define its appeal.
At the same time, the Acadia is not without compromises. The 4-cylinder engine was described as largely inadequate to its task, which makes the wider availability of the V6 especially important for shoppers considering this model. Owner feedback also points to a spacious and comfortable interior, a strong feature set, and a safe, roomy driving experience, while noting concerns about cost and limited trunk space.

The stereo system is low budget. Needs more quality , it couldn’t hurt considering the price for the vehicle.

My new/used 2018 Acadia is just what I was looking for. It has mostly all the bells and whistles. I thought it had a heated steering wheel, but I cant locate the button for it. Otherwise the 1 owner who owned it before me took really good care of it and it is very very tight! Nice find for me

I love my 2018 Acadia. I bought it in 2020 as a CPO vehicle, and it felt and looked brand new. My previous car was an 05 BMW X5 and drove like a sports car. I needed my next SUV to handle the road similarly and it had to be towable. It checked off those boxes easily. I also wanted a 3rd row seat. And the 2nd row seats had to be a bench seat to accommodate my 120lb dog. On top of all that, it had to be reliable!! I LOVE my Acadia and would recommend it to anyone.

Is the 2018 GMC Acadia a good car?
Yes — the 2018 GMC Acadia earns a 4.79/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Form and function and Safety.
Owners consistently praise the spacious and comfortable interior, the roomy design, and the strong feature set. That lines up well with the Acadia’s family-friendly use case, especially if you want a three-row crossover that feels practical without giving up a more capable driving character.
With 30.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2018 GMC Acadia reliable?
Owners rate it 4.79/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free feel in everyday use, with many shoppers valuing the Acadia as a vehicle they can count on for family duty. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the V6 is more than up to the task of motivating the Acadia, which supports confidence in the stronger powertrain choice.
The main long-term ownership risk for used buyers is avoiding a neglected example, especially one that has been driven hard or maintained inconsistently.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 GMC Acadia?
At 61.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful pre-purchase inspection. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the cabin and cargo area show the kind of wear that matches the mileage and asking price.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SL trim is the most basic setup, with the 2.5-liter engine, front-wheel drive, a 7-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. Moving up brings more comfort and convenience, while the SLT trims add more safety and luxury equipment.
- Powertrain: The 2.5-liter four-cylinder is described as largely inadequate for anything beyond commuter duty, while the 3.6-liter V6 delivers 310 hp and 271 lb-ft of torque and is the better choice if you want towing, hauling, or easier everyday performance.
- Safety package: Driver Alert I adds blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. Driver Alert II adds lane-keep assist, auto high beams, front parking sensors, and low-speed forward-collision warning with auto braking.
- Infotainment: The base setup includes a 7-inch touchscreen with Intellilink, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. Higher trims add an 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, and virtual gauges.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2.5-liter engine returns 21 mpg city and 26 highway, while the V6 returns 17 mpg city, 25 highway, and 20 combined.
Which 2018 GMC Acadia trim should I buy?
The 2018 GMC Acadia is offered in 6 trim levels: SL, SLE1, SLE2, SLT1, SLT2, Denali.
Here's the short version:
- SL: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry point and can live with the 2.5-liter engine and front-wheel drive. You still get a 7-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, tri-zone climate control, keyless ignition and entry, and a Wi-Fi hotspot, so it is not stripped down.
- SLE1: This trim is the first step toward the V6/AWD side of the lineup and adds LED running lights and satellite radio. It makes sense if you want a little more capability without jumping too far up the price ladder.
- SLE2: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds heated power front seats, a power liftgate, front fog lights, roof rails, remote engine start, and standard second-row captain’s chairs. If you want family convenience and easier third-row access, this is the sweet spot.
- SLT1: This trim is the first one that really feels upscale, with leather upholstery, power lumbar support, an upgraded driver display, a Bose stereo, and standard blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. It is a strong choice if you want comfort and safety features without going all the way to Denali.
- SLT2: This is the better pick if you want more advanced safety and towing-oriented equipment, including lane-keep assist, auto high beams, front parking sensors, low-speed forward-collision warning and auto braking, heated second-row seats, and a trailering package. It is the most complete non-luxury trim.
- Denali: This is the luxury choice, with an 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, virtual gauges, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, xenon headlights, polished 20-inch wheels, and a hands-free liftgate. It is the right pick if you want the most upscale Acadia, but it comes at a steep price.
The safety packages are not evenly spread across the lineup, so if advanced driver assistance matters to you, pay close attention to which trim includes which package.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 GMC Acadia?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,709 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.79% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 61.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $15,507.63, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 GMC Acadia's resale value?
The current average of $15,515 sits slightly below last year's $17,588.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. If you plan to sell later, the Acadia’s value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and whether it has the more desirable V6 setup and stronger equipment mix.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.79/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 GMC Acadia safe?
It earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS and five-star ratings in frontal collision tests, with four-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The Acadia includes Driver Alert II on higher trims, which adds lane-keep assist, auto high beams, front parking sensors, and low-speed forward-collision warning with auto braking. Standard safety equipment also includes 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, a full airbag suite, and Teen Driver technology.
The main caveat is that the strongest safety recognition depends on the right equipment, so you should verify that the vehicle you are considering has the needed driver-assistance package.
Should I buy a 2018 GMC Acadia or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 61.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.79% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.79/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The V6 is now available on more trims, improving versatility and everyday drivability.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $13,102, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $15,515 average.
- It is a lighter, more modern redesign with a shorter wheelbase.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $17,390, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $15,515 average.
- It feels more upscale inside and rides with a more refined road character.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, capability, and available V6 power, the 2018 is the strongest all-around choice. If your budget is tighter, the 2017 can save you money, while the 2019 is worth considering if you want a more upscale feel and are willing to pay more.
