How much does the 2018 Ford Mustang cost?

Prices have softened 1.34% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,940 listings available, which gives you a solid pool to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2018 Ford Mustang a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Ford Mustang earns a 4.61/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its power, sporty design, fast acceleration, smooth ride, and enjoyable driving experience. That lines up with the overview: you’re looking at a more refined, more performance-focused take on a long-running pony car that still feels stylish and affordable.

With 31.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a strong-value example if you shop carefully.

Is the 2018 Ford Mustang reliable?

Owners rate it 4.61/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a car that feels fun, stylish, and enjoyable to live with, and it also highlights the Mustang’s power and smooth driving character. The expert drive notes reinforce that sense of confidence by describing the car as more sophisticated than before and emphasizing how well it delivers on performance.

Ford also gives you a broad set of driver aids and performance-oriented calibration, which helps the car feel modern and usable. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the specific car you choose has been maintained well and hasn’t been driven hard without proper care.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Ford Mustang?

At 60.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has performance upgrades or a modified suspension, exhaust, or transmission setup. Pay close attention to body condition, panel alignment, tire wear, brake condition, and signs that the car has been driven aggressively or repaired after damage.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The GT Premium test car shows how much the higher trim can add, including higher-quality cabin materials, exposed contrast stitching, and aluminum carbon-pattern trim. The base-level experience is more stripped down, so you should compare interior finish and comfort equipment carefully if you want a more upscale feel.
• Powertrain: The 2018 Mustang lineup includes a turbocharged 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine and a V8 GT, with a 6-speed manual standard on the GT and a 10-speed automatic available. The V8 brings 460 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque, while the automatic adds adaptive shift logic, paddle shifters, and multiple drive modes.
• Safety package: The car includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, driver monitoring, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts. The lane-keeping assist system can detract from driving enjoyment, but it can be switched off.
• Infotainment: You get a 12-inch digital instrument cluster, Sync 3, Track Apps, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Ford Sync Connect, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. The system also includes volume and tuning knobs, which makes it easier to use than many touch-heavy setups.
• Fuel efficiency: The GT is rated at 19 miles per gallon in combined driving, and the review notes that the EcoBoost with a Performance Package can be a more efficient alternative if you want Mustang style without V8 thirst.

Which 2018 Ford Mustang trim should I buy?

The 2018 Ford Mustang is offered in 2 trim levels: EcoBoost and GT.

Here's the short version:

• EcoBoost: This is the best-value choice if you want the Mustang look and feel without paying for V8 power. The review says the real value is found here, and it still delivers plenty of visual attitude and fun on a favorite road.
• GT: Choose this if you want the full performance experience. The GT adds the 5.0-liter V8, 460 horsepower, and the kind of acceleration and driving thrills that make the car feel especially special. If you plan to drive hard or want the most rewarding version, this is the one to target.

The safety content notes that the car’s driver-assistance features are calibrated for performance driving, and the lane-keeping assist system can be turned off if you find it intrusive.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Ford Mustang?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,940 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.34% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $21,231, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Ford Mustang's resale value?

The current average of $22,345 sits slightly below last year's $22,647.

That modest decline suggests the market has softened a bit, which can help you as a buyer today but may also mean future resale gains are more limited unless you choose a well-kept, desirable configuration. A clean, well-optioned Mustang with strong condition and a good history should hold up better than one with accident damage or heavy wear.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.61/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Ford Mustang safe?

The 2018 Mustang earns an Acceptable rating from IIHS for small-overlap frontal-impact protection and Good ratings in other crash-test assessments. It also earns a five-star rating for rollover resistance from NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The car includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, driver monitoring, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts. Those systems are performance-friendly in their calibration, and the lane-keeping assist can be switched off if you don’t want it interfering with spirited driving.

One caveat is the IIHS small-overlap result, which is weaker than the rest of the crash-test picture, so you should weigh that carefully if safety is a top priority.

Should I buy a 2018 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.34% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.61/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 update brings substantial mechanical and technological improvements, including a more sophisticated feel, stronger performance focus, and a broader set of driver aids.

The bottom line: If you want the most polished version of this generation’s Mustang without moving to a newer model year, the 2018 is a strong pick because it blends heritage, performance, and modern tech in a way that still feels current. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still shop nearby years, but the 2018’s updates make it the better all-around target when condition and price are close.
