That fits the Durango’s use case well: you’re looking at a three-row crossover that leans into performance while still working as a practical family hauler. What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Dodge Durango?

At 62% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage or heavily optioned example. Pay close attention to signs of prior bodywork, uneven panel gaps, worn interior controls, and any evidence that expensive options were added or repaired poorly.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base SXT starts with a 7-inch touchscreen, reversing camera, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, RWD, and 7-passenger seating, while higher trims add features like leather upholstery, heated seats, a power liftgate, and more luxury equipment. The base trim is the one most likely to feel sparse compared with the better-equipped versions.
• Powertrain: You can shop a 293-hp V6, a 5.7-liter V8, or the 475-hp SRT V8. The V6 emphasizes towing and efficiency, the R/T V8 adds stronger towing and more muscle, and the SRT is the most extreme performance choice.
• Safety package: The Technology package adds adaptive cruise with auto braking and brake assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-path alert, full-speed forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning. Some of these advanced systems are not standard on higher trims, so check carefully before you buy.
• Infotainment: The Durango gets a standard 7-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a reversing camera. The interface is responsive, and the smartphone integration helps you avoid relying on built-in navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 returns 19 mpg city and 26 highway, while the 5.7-liter V8 returns 14 mpg city and 22 highway. The SRT’s 6.4-liter V8 is rated at 13 mpg city and 19 highway.

Which 2018 Dodge Durango trim should I buy?

The 2018 Dodge Durango is offered in 6 trim levels: SXT, SXT Plus, GT, Citadel, R/T, SRT.

Here's the short version:

• SXT: This is the value starting point if you want the Durango’s core strengths without stretching your budget. You get the standard tech and seating setup, plus the V6’s strong towing ability, so it makes sense if you want the most affordable path into the lineup.
• SXT Plus: This trim is the better pick if you want a more comfortable daily driver without jumping too far up the price ladder. The added power driver’s seat, lumbar support, roof rails, and rear park-assist system make it the best-value upgrade for many shoppers.
• GT: This is the trim to target if you want a more polished feel, with leather upholstery, remote start, a power liftgate, heated seats, and more convenience features. It’s a strong middle ground if you want family-friendly comfort without going all the way to luxury pricing.
• Citadel: Choose this if you want the most upscale cabin experience short of the performance-focused models. The upgraded leather, ventilated front seats, sunroof, larger touchscreen, and premium audio make it the luxury-leaning choice.
• R/T: This is the right pick if you want the best blend of V8 power and everyday usability. It adds sport suspension, stronger towing, and a more aggressive look, making it the best fit for buyers who care about performance first.
• SRT: This is the enthusiast choice, with the 475-hp V8, adaptive suspension, and performance-focused hardware. Buy it if you want the most extreme Durango and are willing to accept the higher running costs that come with it.

The safety package is available on select trims, so verify whether the advanced driver-assistance features you want are included before you commit.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Dodge Durango?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,707 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.90% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 62.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,462, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Dodge Durango's resale value?

The current average of $17,462 sits slightly below last year's $19,821.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy more confidently now. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment rather than assuming the model will hold its price on name recognition alone.

Well-kept examples with desirable features should still attract attention, especially because the Durango has a strong mix of space, towing ability, and performance appeal. If you maintain yours carefully and keep the history clean, you’ll be in a better position when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Dodge Durango safe?

The Dodge Durango earns four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover, and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests, while independent evaluations gave it top ratings in all tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes four-wheel antilock discs, stability control, traction control, trailer sway control, and a full airbag suite with front side, driver knee, and full-length curtain airbags. The available Technology package adds adaptive cruise with auto braking and brake assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-path alert, full-speed forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning.

One caveat is that some advanced safety systems are not standard across the lineup, so you should confirm exactly which features are included on the specific trim you’re considering. The braking performance is competitive, but not class-leading.

Should I buy a 2018 Dodge Durango or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 62% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.90% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• This year adds Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a standard reversing camera, and a new 7-inch touchscreen.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $14,893, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $17,462 average.
• It emphasizes family-friendly space and utility with a rugged, function-first cabin.

The bottom line: If you want the better-equipped Durango with modern smartphone integration and stronger market value, the 2018 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is saving money upfront and you can live without the newer tech, the 2017 is the more budget-friendly route.
