CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Dodge Charger
overall

Summary
With 107 currently listed for sale near Minneapolis, MN and an average price of $14,321.00, 24.3% of 2018 Dodge Chargers for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Dodge Charger 4.67 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
62.6% of 2018 Charger models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Dodge Charger stands out because it blends old-school muscle-sedan character with modern features. It is described as a retro sedan in styling and as a rear-wheel-drive muscle sedan in a world of front-wheel-drive conveyances, which gives it a personality that few modern cars share. Dodge also offered it in a host of unique trims and special editions, helping it feel more distinctive than a typical family sedan.
It is not just about image, though. The 2018 Dodge Charger comes with the latest infotainment and safety technology, and it can even be bought with all-wheel drive. Its engine range is broad, starting with standard V6 power and extending to an insane 707-horsepower V8, so buyers could choose anything from everyday strength to extreme performance. That mix of character, technology, and available traction makes it appealing to shoppers who want a sedan with more attitude than the average commuter car.
At the same time, the Charger’s appeal comes with some tradeoffs. Owners praise its sporty features, smooth ride, powerful performance, stylish design, tech features, and spacious interior, but some also mention concerns about gas mileage and the quality of materials in certain areas, including the fit and finish of the seats.

Absolutely love these line of vehicle! So versatile, and agile if i may say lol, Handles really well in the corners and the power is there if you need it. Dodge definitely outdid itself with this line of vehicles, sports wise as well as family ability! Hope to see more in the future or at least something along the same lines, being that they (Dodge) are converting more to EV’s now (Electric Vehicles). But time will tell!

Yes — the 2018 Dodge Charger earns a 4.67/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Technology.
Owners consistently praise its powerful performance, stylish design, and spacious interior, while also calling out its sporty features and smooth ride. The overview fits that feedback: you get a retro, rear-wheel-drive muscle sedan with modern tech and a broad engine range, so it works whether you want everyday use or more attitude. With 22.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2018 Dodge Charger reliable?
Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner summary also points to a car many people find dependable and enjoyable to live with, with praise centered on its powerful performance, smooth ride, and spacious interior. The expert drive notes that the Charger delivers strong braking and confidence in normal driving, which supports the sense that it’s a car you can count on day to day. The available maintenance perk language is not present here, so the main ownership takeaway is that you should still pay close attention to condition and service history on a used example, especially given the complaints about reliability issues and overall condition in some reviews.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Dodge Charger?
At 50.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a car with performance options or visible wear. Focus on body condition, interior fit and finish, and whether the car has been maintained consistently, since owner feedback mentions condition concerns alongside reliability complaints.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SXT starts with 17-inch aluminum wheels, push-button start, a 6-way power driver’s seat, dual USB ports, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The SXT Plus adds fog lamps, heated mirrors, dual-zone automatic temperature control, heated front seats, and a six-speaker premium stereo. The GT adds all-wheel drive, a Gloss Black front fascia, 19-inch wheels, and a flat-bottom performance steering wheel with paddle shifters. The GT Plus adds heated and cooled seats plus a heated steering wheel. The R/T brings V8 power, a sport suspension, 20-inch wheels, and active exhaust. The R/T with Scat Pack adds the 6.4-liter V8, Brembo brakes, and cloth performance seats. The best-value trim is the GT if you want all-weather traction and a richer feature set without jumping to V8 pricing.
- Powertrain: The V6 trims use a 3.6-liter engine with 292 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, or 300 horsepower and 264 pound-feet in GT trims and V6 models with the Super Track Pak. The R/T and Daytona use a 5.7-liter V8 with 370 horsepower and 395 pound-feet of torque. Higher-performance versions move to a 6.4-liter V8 with 485 horsepower and 475 pound-feet, while the Hellcat tops the range with a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 making 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet. Efficiency is strongest with the rear-wheel-drive V6 at 19 mpg city, 30 highway, 23 combined.
- Safety package: The standard safety equipment includes a reversing camera, rear parking sensors, front- and side-impact airbags, active head restraints, the LATCH child-seat anchoring system, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Available blind-spot warning with rear cross-path detection and the Technology Group add adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and automatic high beams. Some of those features are optional rather than standard, so check carefully if you want a fully loaded safety setup.
- Infotainment: The SXT gets a 7-inch Uconnect touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Every other trim gets the larger 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen. The system is described as easy to use, and it also supports Dodge Performance Pages on the GT.
- Fuel efficiency: The rear-wheel-drive V6 returns 19 mpg city, 30 highway, 23 combined. The all-wheel-drive V6 returns 18 mpg city, 27 highway, 21 combined. The R/T gets 16 mpg city, 25 highway, 19 combined, and the Hellcat gets 13 mpg city, 22 highway, 16 combined.
Which 2018 Dodge Charger trim should I buy?
The 2018 Dodge Charger is offered in 9 trim levels: SXT, SXT Plus, GT, GT Plus, R/T, R/T with Scat Pack, Daytona, Daytona 392, SRT 392.
Here's the short version:
- SXT: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Charger’s core personality with the 7-inch Uconnect screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a solid standard equipment list. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model and don’t need extra comfort or performance features.
- SXT Plus: This trim adds useful comfort upgrades like heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, fog lamps, and a better stereo. It’s a smart step up if you want more everyday convenience without moving into AWD or V8 territory.
- GT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds all-wheel drive, 19-inch wheels, and a more performance-focused steering wheel while keeping the V6. If you want the most balanced mix of traction, features, and price, this is the one to target.
- GT Plus: Choose this if you want the GT’s AWD plus heated and cooled seats and a heated steering wheel. It suits you best if you live in a colder climate and want a more upscale daily driver.
- R/T: This is the first V8 trim, and it brings sport suspension, active exhaust, and a stronger performance character. It’s the right pick if you care more about sound and straight-line punch than fuel economy.
- R/T with Scat Pack: This trim adds the 6.4-liter V8, Brembo brakes, and performance seats, making it the clear choice for buyers who want serious muscle-car hardware. It’s the best fit if performance is your top priority.
- Daytona: This version builds on the R/T with a performance cold air intake, three-mode stability control, performance suspension, and distinctive visual upgrades. It works well if you want a more special-edition feel without going all the way to the highest trims.
- Daytona 392: This trim combines the Daytona’s upgrades with the 6.4-liter V8. It’s for you if you want the Daytona look and the stronger engine together.
- SRT 392: This is the most focused performance trim short of the Hellcat, with red Brembo calipers, high-performance active damping suspension, and unique SRT interior touches. It’s the choice for buyers who want the sharpest handling-oriented setup in the lineup.
For safety, note that blind-spot warning with rear cross-path detection and the Technology Group are available rather than standard, so verify equipment carefully on any used example.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Dodge Charger?
This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep buyer’s market everywhere.
- Deal availability: 22.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,592 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.93% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 50.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $19,203.50, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Dodge Charger's resale value?
The current average of $19,713 sits slightly below last year's $21,885.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point if you plan to keep the car for a while. For a future seller, the softer pricing means you may not see the same short-term appreciation that stronger-demand models can deliver. Still, a Charger with the right trim, clean history, and strong condition should remain easier to move than a neglected example.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Dodge Charger safe?
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
Dodge made a reversing camera and rear parking sensors standard across the lineup, along with front- and side-impact airbags, active head restraints, the LATCH child-seat anchoring system, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Available blind-spot warning with rear cross-path detection and the Technology Group add adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and automatic high beams. Because some of those features are optional, you should confirm exactly what’s installed on the used car you’re considering.
Should I buy a 2018 Dodge Charger or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 22.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 50.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.93% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2018 keeps the Charger’s retro muscle-sedan character while adding modern infotainment and safety tech.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $18,490, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $19,713 average.
- It delivers thunderous, attention-grabbing muscle-car character with everyday practicality.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger mix of modern tech, broader inventory, and a softer price trend, the 2018 is the better all-around pick. If your main goal is to spend less up front and you’re comfortable giving up some of the newer-year value, the 2017 is the price-sensitive alternative worth a look.
