CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Chevrolet Volt

Summary
With 205 currently listed for sale and an average price of $14,001.00, 36.1% of 2018 Chevrolet Volts for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Chevrolet Volt 4.7 / 5 stars.
68.3% of 2018 Volt models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Chevrolet Volt stands out because it blends electric driving with gas-powered backup in a way that still feels unusually practical. In this generation, engine torque was sent directly to the wheels through a mechanical connection, which helped boost the EPA-estimated all-electric range to around 53 miles. It also seated five, could run on regular fuel, and came with Apple CarPlay, giving it a mix of efficiency and everyday convenience that made it appealing to buyers who wanted modern technology without giving up flexibility.
The 2018 model also benefited from a well-equipped base setup. The LT trim included automatic climate control, remote start, passive entry, a built-in WiFi hotspot, an eight-inch infotainment touchscreen display, a rearview camera, cruise control, and Apple CarPlay as standard equipment. Available safety and comfort features included heated leather seats, a heated steering wheel, ambient lighting, blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and automatic emergency braking. For 2018, the base model also gained available blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, which added to its appeal as a tech-forward compact car.
At the same time, the Volt was not perfect. The source notes cramped rear seats, a small cargo area, and cheap interior materials, so it was strongest as a smart, efficient commuter rather than a spacious family vehicle. Even so, its combination of electric-only driving for short distances, strong fuel economy, and a long total range made the 2018 Chevrolet Volt distinctive among used cars for shoppers trying to reduce fuel stops without fully committing to a battery-electric vehicle.

The Volt is an excellent car and offers the best of both worlds. The second generation volt offers over 50 miles of pure electric range but also gives you peace of mind with a gas engine that will get you a combined 400 or so miles of range. No range anxiety and no worries about the rising gas prices for your daily commute.

How much does the 2018 Chevrolet Volt cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $13,946 |
| Year-Round Low | $12,878.14 |
| Year-Round High | $14,882.26 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $14,887 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −6.32% |
Prices have softened 6.32% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 195 listings available, which suggests you have a workable amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $12,878.14, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2018 Chevrolet Volt a good car?
Yes — the 2018 Chevrolet Volt earns a 4.7/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction.
Drivers consistently praise the hybrid system for its flexibility, especially the way it combines electric driving with gas backup. The extended electric range of over 50 miles also comes through as a recurring strength, along with the fuel economy that makes the car appealing for commuting. In practical terms, the overview fits that feedback: you get a five-seat compact with Apple CarPlay, regular-fuel compatibility, and a setup that works well if you want efficiency without giving up everyday usability.
With 28.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively while still finding value.
Is the 2018 Chevrolet Volt reliable?
Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also describes the Volt as reliable and dependable, with a reputation for being a trouble-free choice for drivers who want to count on it day to day. That matters here because the car’s appeal is tied to long-term ownership confidence as much as efficiency.
For used buyers, the main risk is less about the concept and more about how well a specific example has been maintained over time.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Chevrolet Volt?
At 68.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage or repeated claims. After that, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has higher mileage or visible wear that could point to harder use. Focus on overall condition, because the Volt’s value depends heavily on how well the car has been cared for rather than just its equipment list.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Chevrolet Volt?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 28.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 195 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.32% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 68.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,878.14, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Chevrolet Volt's resale value?
The current average of $13,946 sits slightly below last year's $14,887.
That kind of price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer now but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that pricing discipline matters: a well-kept example should still attract interest, but you may need to price it competitively to move it quickly.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Chevrolet Volt or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 28.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 68.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.32% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2018 is the right pick if you want a well-liked, efficiency-focused Volt with solid market availability and a meaningful chance to find a deal. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can also keep shopping nearby years and compare condition closely, since the best value will often come down to the individual car rather than the badge alone.
