What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Buick Enclave?

At 64.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with visible cosmetic wear. Focus on how the cabin, cameras, and driver-assistance features function in real use, since the Enclave’s appeal depends heavily on comfort and technology. It’s also worth checking that the vehicle’s condition matches the trim level you’re paying for.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim includes LEDs, remote engine start, 3-zone auto climate control, rear parking sensors, an 8-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, 4G LTE, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and six USB ports, but the Essence adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alerts, an optional top-down camera, standard leather, and available AWD and towing equipment. The Premium trim adds front parking sensors, a Bose stereo, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, power-folding third-row seating, and more advanced safety systems, while Avenir adds 20-inch alloys, an enhanced driver-info screen, rear camera display in the mirror, standard navigation, a sunroof, and a top-down camera.
• Powertrain: The Enclave uses a 3.6-liter V6 with a 9-speed transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard on the base trim, while AWD is available on higher trims, with the twin-clutch system reserved for the Premier and Avenir trims.
• Safety package: The Essence’s blind-spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alerts and optional top-down camera help address visibility concerns, while the Premium adds low-speed forward-collision mitigation with pedestrian detection plus lane-departure warning and intervention. Avenir also opens up adaptive cruise with auto brake and adaptive suspension.
• Infotainment: You get an 8-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, 4G LTE, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and six USB ports, including four for rear passengers. Navigation is not standard on lower trims.
• Fuel efficiency: The Enclave adds 2-3 mpg in 2018 depending on trim and configuration, and one tested AWD setup returned 17 mpg city, 25 highway, and 20 combined.

Which 2018 Buick Enclave trim should I buy?

The 2018 Buick Enclave is offered in 4 trim levels: Base, Essence, Premium, Avenir.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the value entry point if you want the Enclave’s quiet cabin, standard LEDs, remote start, 3-zone climate control, rear parking sensors, and a strong tech list with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, 4G LTE, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and six USB ports. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model and can live without the extra visibility and luxury upgrades.
• Essence: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alerts, an optional top-down camera, standard leather, and available AWD and towing capability. If you want the most balanced mix of comfort, safety, and everyday usefulness, this is the trim to target.
• Premium: This trim is for you if you want a more upscale and tech-heavy Enclave, with front parking sensors, a Bose stereo, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, power-folding third-row seating, and more advanced driver-assistance features. It’s a strong step up if you’ll use the added convenience and safety equipment.
• Avenir: This is the top choice if you want the most luxurious Enclave, with 20-inch alloys, an enhanced driver-info screen, rear camera display in the mirror, standard navigation, a sunroof, and a top-down camera. It also unlocks adaptive suspension, adaptive cruise with auto brake, and aero shutters for the grille.

For safety-focused shoppers, the Essence is the key trim because it adds the visibility aids that help address the base model’s gaps.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Buick Enclave?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,212 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.69% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 64.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $16,004, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Buick Enclave's resale value?

The current average of $16,017 sits slightly below last year's $17,166.

That softer pricing suggests the market has moved in buyers’ favor, which can make the Enclave easier to purchase now but may also limit near-term upside for a future seller. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you’ll be better positioned to preserve value. The model’s premium feel and strong owner satisfaction should help support demand over time.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Buick Enclave safe?

The 2018 Buick Enclave earns five-star ratings overall from NHTSA, with four-star ratings for rollover and front passenger impact tests.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The Enclave’s safety equipment is strongest in the higher trims, where you get blind-spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alerts, a top-down camera, low-speed forward-collision mitigation with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning and intervention, and, on Avenir, adaptive cruise with auto brake. The main caveat is that visibility and braking performance are weaker points, so you should pay close attention to how the vehicle feels on a test drive.

Should I buy a 2018 Buick Enclave or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 64.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.69% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 brings a full redesign with more power, less weight, and a quieter, more modern cabin.

The bottom line: If you want the most modern version of the Enclave’s comfort-first formula, the 2018 is the right place to start. If you’re mainly chasing the lowest purchase price, a nearby year may be worth a look, but you’ll give up some of the redesign’s improvements and updated feel.

How does the 2018 Buick Enclave compare to the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse?

Our experts score the 2018 Buick Enclave 7/10 and the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse 8/10.

The Enclave gives you a quieter, more upscale cabin and a more luxury-oriented experience, while the Traverse is the stronger value play with a lower average used price and more listings to choose from. Both share the same engine output and similar fuel economy, but the Traverse’s broader market availability and lower cost make it the easier recommendation if you’re shopping strictly on value. The Enclave makes more sense if you want the more premium-feeling SUV and are willing to pay for it.
