What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Audi Q5?

At 70.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on condition details that matter in a luxury SUV: interior wear, electronics, braking feel, and any signs that the vehicle has been repaired after a collision.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige are the standard trims, and the base version is the one most likely to leave you wanting more equipment. Prestige adds the most upscale tech and convenience features, while Premium Plus is the trim that most clearly balances equipment and value.
• Powertrain: The Q5 uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 252 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission and Quattro Ultra all-wheel drive. The setup is tuned for strong everyday performance and efficiency-minded AWD operation.
• Safety package: Audi Pre-Sense is standard and includes forward-collision detection and automatic emergency braking. Audi’s Driver Assistance Package is exclusive to Prestige models and adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and Traffic Jam Assist. Premium Plus models also add blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and Vehicle Exit Assist.
• Infotainment: Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on all models. The Multi-Media Interface All-in-Touch system is standard on Prestige and optional on other versions, and Audi Virtual Cockpit is standard on Prestige and optional on Premium Plus. A full-color head-up display is standard only on Prestige.
• Fuel efficiency: The review says the Q5 was estimated at 25 mpg combined, though the test vehicle returned 21.3 mpg in real-world driving.

Which 2018 Audi Q5 trim should I buy?

The 2018 Audi Q5 is offered in 3 trim levels: Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige.

Here's the short version:

• Premium: This is the entry point, and it gives you the redesigned Q5 experience with standard AWD, leather seats, real wood trim, three-zone climate control, and Audi Pre-Sense. It makes sense if you want the core luxury-SUV formula without paying for the higher-tech extras.
• Premium Plus: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and Vehicle Exit Assist, while also opening the door to more available tech upgrades. If you want the sweet spot between price and equipment, this is the one to target.
• Prestige: This is the most fully equipped version, with standard Multi-Media Interface All-in-Touch, Audi Virtual Cockpit, a head-up display, and the Driver Assistance Package. Choose it if you want the most advanced tech and driver-assistance content in the lineup.

Audi’s Driver Assistance Package is exclusive to Prestige models.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Audi Q5?

The market looks selective rather than overheated, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile examples.

• Deal availability: 37.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,748 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.41% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 70.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,472, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Audi Q5's resale value?

The current average of $15,483 sits slightly below last year's $17,282.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper what you recover later as a seller. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you reduce the risk of taking an outsized depreciation hit from here.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.87/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Audi Q5 safe?

The 2018 Audi Q5 earns top marks for moderate overlap frontal impact and side impact protection from IIHS, but a Marginal rating for the headlight performance of certain versions of the vehicle.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Audi Pre-Sense is standard on all Q5 models and includes forward-collision detection, automatic emergency braking, and cabin-preparation technology. The Driver Assistance Package, exclusive to Prestige models, adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and Traffic Jam Assist. Premium Plus models also get blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and Vehicle Exit Assist.

The headlight caveat is the main safety shortcoming to keep in mind, so it is worth checking exactly which lighting setup a used example has before you buy.

Should I buy a 2018 Audi Q5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 37.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 70.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.41% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.87/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 model is the redesigned version, bringing more room, better tech, improved performance, and a more sophisticated overall package.

The bottom line: If you want the most modern version of this Q5 generation, the 2018 is the one to focus on because it brings the redesign and the strongest blend of tech, refinement, and everyday usability. If your priority is simply getting into a Q5 for less money, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2018 is the better pick when you want the newer design and the more complete overall package.
