What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Audi Q5?

At 69.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on bodywork quality, signs of prior repair, and whether the vehicle’s condition matches its mileage and asking price.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige are the standard trims, and the base version is the one most likely to leave you wanting more equipment. The higher trims add more luxury and convenience content, while Prestige brings the most advanced tech and driver-assistance features.
• Powertrain: A turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder makes 252 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission and Quattro Ultra all-wheel drive. The system can decouple the rear axle to help maximize fuel economy under certain conditions.
• Safety package: Audi Pre-Sense is standard and includes forward-collision detection and automatic emergency braking, plus cabin-preparation technology for an unavoidable impact. The Driver Assistance Package is exclusive to Prestige and adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and Traffic Jam Assist.
• Infotainment: Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. The latest Multi-Media Interface All-in-Touch system is standard on Prestige and optional on other versions, and Audi Virtual Cockpit is standard on Prestige and optional on Premium Plus. A 4G LTE Wi-Fi connection is also available.
• Fuel efficiency: The review cites 25 mpg combined from the EPA estimate, and the test vehicle returned 21.3 mpg in real-world driving.

Which 2018 Audi Q5 trim should I buy?

The 2018 Audi Q5 is offered in 3 trim levels: Premium, Premium Plus, Prestige.

Here's the short version:

• Premium: This is the entry point, and it gives you the redesigned Q5 experience without stretching too far on price. It’s the trim to consider if you want the core luxury, standard AWD, and the new powertrain without paying for the most advanced tech.
• Premium Plus: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds meaningful upgrades without jumping all the way to the top. It’s the sweet spot if you want more convenience and tech while keeping the Q5’s overall value proposition in check.
• Prestige: Choose this if you want the most advanced equipment, including the standard Multi-Media Interface All-in-Touch system, Audi Virtual Cockpit, a head-up display, and the Driver Assistance Package.

Audi Pre-Sense is standard on all Q5 models, while the more advanced driver-assistance package is reserved for Prestige.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Audi Q5?

The market looks selective rather than overheated, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 38.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,714 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.98% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 69.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,463, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Audi Q5's resale value?

The current average of $15,463 sits slightly below last year's $17,370.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may also mean a future seller has less room to recover value quickly. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you’ll be better positioned to limit depreciation pain later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.93/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Audi Q5 safe?

The 2018 Audi Q5 earns top marks for moderate overlap frontal impact and side impact protection from IIHS, though certain versions received a Marginal headlight rating.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Audi Pre-Sense is standard on all Q5 models and includes forward-collision detection, automatic emergency braking, and cabin-preparation technology for an unavoidable impact. The Driver Assistance Package is exclusive to Prestige models and adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and Traffic Jam Assist.

The headlight result is the main caveat to keep in mind, especially if you’re comparing trims or specific equipment combinations.

Should I buy a 2018 Audi Q5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 38.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 69.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.98% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.93/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Audi’s redesign brings the latest technology, improved performance and driving dynamics, more interior room, and greater overall sophistication.

The bottom line: The 2018 Q5 is the better pick if you want the redesigned model’s stronger tech, refinement, and all-around polish. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still shop nearby years, but the 2018 stands out as the more modern and well-rounded choice in this range.
