Why it stands out
The 2018 Acura TLX stands out as Acura’s answer to the 3 Series, and for 2018 it gets a slight refresh along with a sporty new package. It has offered competent performance since it was introduced in 2015, and Acura’s updates for this model year are aimed at making it more appealing to shoppers who may have overlooked it before.
What makes the 2018 TLX especially distinctive is the combination of a redesigned face, a faster infotainment system, retuned transmissions, and extra standard safety. The sporty new A-Spec trims are described as the real winners for 2018, giving the TLX a more performance-focused edge. Owners also tend to praise its luxury features, smooth performance, stylish design, powerful V6 engine, and comfortable interior, though some find the technology package complicated and the price tag high.

I absolutely love my TLX!! So I was pretty adamant about getting into a 2018 Honda Accord 2.0 Sport. I test drove it, was not a fan. So I decided to look at something comparable. Honestly, the Acura was far superior. Both in looks, performance (it’s a V6) so it’s got quite a punch, yet it drives so smooth. I love my car! Not sure I’ll ever own anything but Acura from now on!!

This is my second TLX. While I love driving in luxury, I refuse to pay over $50,000 for a vehicle. This car is fantastic all around. The interior is stylish and rich, while the exterior is impressively sporty. The hidden gem is the engine and the ride. You will not be disappointed with this car!

Is the 2018 Acura TLX a good car?
Yes — the 2018 Acura TLX earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise the luxury features, smooth performance, and stylish design, and they also like the powerful V6 engine and comfortable interior. In practical terms, that lines up well with a midsize luxury sedan that aims to give you a lot of equipment and refinement for the money. The sporty A-Spec trims are the real winners for 2018, giving you a more performance-focused version if you want the TLX to feel a little sharper. With 25.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2018 Acura TLX reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a car you can count on for smooth performance, luxury features, and a comfortable interior, which are all encouraging signs for everyday use. The expert evaluation also emphasizes competent performance and a well-rounded driving experience, which supports the idea that the TLX is built to serve as a dependable daily driver. Acura’s standard safety and tech content also suggests a thoughtfully equipped ownership experience, and the available maintenance perk can help reduce early ownership costs.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the specific car you choose has been cared for properly, especially if it has higher mileage or a more complex package setup.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Acura TLX?
At 56.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had bodywork or shows uneven panel gaps, tire wear, or brake issues. Pay close attention to how the transmission, brakes, and infotainment behave on a test drive, since those are the kinds of systems that can affect day-to-day satisfaction. If you’re considering a higher-trim car, make sure the added equipment actually works as intended and matches the listing description.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base TLX FWD trim gives you 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, keyless entry and ignition, push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated sports seats with faux leather, and Bluetooth, while the V6 trims add a stronger engine, 18-inch wheels, and a more adjustable driver’s seat. The A-Spec package is the standout if you want the sportiest look and feel, with darker exterior trim, upgraded interior accents, and chassis tuning that sharpens the car’s character.
- Powertrain: You can shop a 2.4-liter four-cylinder with front-wheel drive or a 3.5-liter V6 with either P-AWS or SH-AWD. The four-cylinder is efficient and adequate, while the V6 brings much stronger acceleration and a more relaxed passing feel.
- Safety package: AcuraWatch is standard and includes adaptive cruise, auto high beams, lane-departure warning and intervention, forward-collision warning with auto brake, and road-departure mitigation. Blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and cameras are tied to optional packages or higher trims.
- Infotainment: The refreshed infotainment system is faster, but the dual-screen layout and dated graphics can still feel complicated. The system’s speed improvement helps, but you should make sure you’re comfortable with the interface before you buy.
- Fuel efficiency: The base engine is rated at 23 mpg city and 33 highway for a combined 27 mpg, while the V6 is rated at 20 mpg city and 32 highway for a combined 24 mpg. With AWD, the V6 still returns a combined 24 mpg, and the A-Spec package trims efficiency slightly.
Which 2018 Acura TLX trim should I buy?
The 2018 Acura TLX is offered in 4 trim levels: TLX FWD, TLX V6, TLX V6 with Technology Package, TLX V6 with Technology Package and A-Spec Package.
Here's the short version:
- TLX FWD: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry point and still want a well-equipped luxury sedan. You get the core comfort and safety features, plus the standard AcuraWatch suite, but it’s the least powerful version.
- TLX V6: This is the best choice if you want the strongest performance without piling on extra equipment. The V6 brings much quicker acceleration and a more premium driving feel, making it the most balanced step up for many shoppers.
- TLX V6 with Technology Package: This is the smart upgrade if you want the best mix of convenience and luxury content. It adds navigation, real leather, a better stereo, blind-spot monitoring, and other upscale touches that make daily use easier.
- TLX V6 with Technology Package and A-Spec Package: This is the pick if you want the most distinctive TLX and the sportiest chassis tuning. It adds the visual upgrades and the firmer suspension setup that make the car feel more special, and it’s the trim that best matches the 2018 refresh’s performance-focused personality.
AcuraWatch is standard, but blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and cameras are still tied to higher trims or packages.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Acura TLX?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 25.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 488 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.74% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 56.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $18,055.63, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Acura TLX's resale value?
The current average of $18,633 sits slightly below last year's $18,964.
That kind of softening suggests the TLX is still in a buyer-friendly phase, which can help you if you’re shopping now but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the good news is that the model still has a solid value proposition because it offers a lot of equipment and a premium badge without a steep entry price. If the market continues to reward well-equipped luxury sedans with strong owner satisfaction, cleaner examples should remain easier to move.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Acura TLX safe?
The TLX earns five-star ratings from NHTSA in all categories, and IIHS awarded it Acceptable ratings in the Driver’s Side Small Overlap and Headlight tests, plus a Marginal rating for child-seat anchor ease of use.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
AcuraWatch is standard and includes adaptive cruise, auto high beams, lane-departure warning and intervention, forward-collision warning with auto brake, and road-departure mitigation. That gives you a strong baseline of driver assistance even on the lower trims. Blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and cameras are still reserved for optional packages or higher trims, so you should verify the exact equipment on any used example you’re considering. The IIHS results also remind you to pay attention to headlights and child-seat anchor usability if those matter for your household.
Should I buy a 2018 Acura TLX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 25.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 56.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.74% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2018 refresh brings a faster infotainment system, retuned transmissions, extra standard safety, and the sporty A-Spec package that makes the car feel more compelling.
The bottom line: If you want the most updated version of this first-generation TLX, the 2018 is the one to target because it adds meaningful equipment and a more appealing personality without pushing prices into a much higher bracket. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully and focus on clean, well-maintained examples, but the 2018 is the better bet when you want the refresh benefits and the strongest overall value mix.
