I absolutely love my TLX!! So I was pretty adamant about getting into a 2018 Honda Accord 2.0 Sport. I test drove it, was not a fan. So I decided to look at something comparable. Honestly, the Acura was far superior. Both in looks, performance (it’s a V6) so it’s got quite a punch, yet it drives so smooth. I love my car! Not sure I’ll ever own anything but Acura from now on!!

This is my second TLX. While I love driving in luxury, I refuse to pay over $50,000 for a vehicle. This car is fantastic all around. The interior is stylish and rich, while the exterior is impressively sporty. The hidden gem is the engine and the ride. You will not be disappointed with this car!

The owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable in everyday use, with praise centered on smooth performance, luxury features, and a comfortable interior. That kind of feedback usually matters most when you’re shopping used, because it suggests the car has been easy to live with over time rather than just impressive on a test drive.
The expert evaluation also emphasizes competent performance and Honda build quality, which supports the case for solid day-to-day durability. If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the specific car you choose has been maintained well and hasn’t developed expensive wear items or neglected mechanical issues.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Acura TLX?
At 57.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in a prior collision or shows signs of uneven wear. Focus on body condition, panel alignment, brake feel, tire wear, and whether the technology and driver-assistance features work as expected.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base TLX FWD trim comes with a 2.4-liter engine, 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, keyless entry and ignition, push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated sports seats with faux leather, and Bluetooth. Higher trims add more power and more equipment, so the base car is the one most likely to feel light on features if you want a more upscale experience.
- Powertrain: The base 2.4-liter engine is paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission and front-wheel drive, while V6 trims use a 3.5-liter engine with a 9-speed transmission and can be had with P-AWS or SH-AWD. The base setup is efficient, while the V6 brings stronger acceleration and a more satisfying performance feel.
- Safety package: Every TLX gets AcuraWatch, which includes adaptive cruise, auto high beams, lane-departure warning and intervention, forward-collision warning with auto brake, and road-departure mitigation. Blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and cameras are tied to optional packages or higher trims.
- Infotainment: The refreshed infotainment system is faster, but the dual-screen layout and dated graphics can still feel complicated. The system does not read as especially simple, so make sure you’re comfortable with it before you buy.
- Fuel efficiency: The base engine is rated at 23 mpg city, 33 highway, and 27 combined. The V6 is rated at 20 mpg city, 32 highway, and 24 combined, and AWD changes the mix slightly while keeping the combined figure at 24 mpg.
Which 2018 Acura TLX trim should I buy?
The 2018 Acura TLX is offered in 4 trim levels: TLX FWD, TLX V6, TLX V6 with Technology Package, and TLX V6 with Technology Package and A-Spec Package.
Here's the short version:
- TLX FWD: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core TLX experience with the base 2.4-liter engine, standard AcuraWatch safety tech, and a long list of comfort features. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model, but it’s the least compelling choice if you care about the TLX’s sportier personality.
- TLX V6: The V6 is the better all-around choice if you want stronger acceleration and a more premium driving feel without jumping straight into the pricier packages. It adds the 290-hp engine, the 9-speed transmission, and more substantial driver-seat adjustability, making it the best-value trim for many shoppers.
- TLX V6 with Technology Package: This is the trim to target if you want the most balanced mix of luxury and convenience. It adds navigation with real-time traffic, rain-sensing wipers, real leather seating surfaces, GPS-linked climate control, an upgraded 10-speaker stereo with HD Radio, a color multi-information display, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic.
- TLX V6 with Technology Package and A-Spec Package: This is the enthusiast pick. It layers on the sportier styling, 19-inch wheels, stiffer suspension tuning, more aggressive dampers, a thicker rear stabilizer, and a sportier steering ratio, while also carrying over the Tech Package equipment. It’s the one to choose if you want the TLX to feel more distinctive and engaging.
AcuraWatch is standard across the lineup, but blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and cameras are still tied to higher trims or packages.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Acura TLX?
This is a moderate market, so you can be selective without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 495 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.06% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 57.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $18,061, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Acura TLX's resale value?
The current average of $18,848 sits slightly below last year's $19,244.
That tells you the market has softened, which can help you as a buyer today but may also mean a future seller has less room to recover value quickly. If you plan to own the car for a while, the current pricing suggests you’re entering at a more favorable point than someone who bought when prices were higher.
For resale, the TLX’s appeal should still benefit from its strong feature set, luxury positioning, and broad owner satisfaction. Cars that feel well equipped and well liked tend to stay easier to move later, especially when they offer a good mix of comfort and performance.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Acura TLX safe?
The TLX benefits from an unblemished, 5-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in all categories, though the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the TLX a second-best rating of Acceptable in the Driver’s Side Small Overlap and Headlight tests, as well as a Marginal rating for the ease of use of the child-seat anchors.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The AcuraWatch suite of safety features, including standard adaptive cruise, auto high beams, lane-departure warning and intervention, forward-collision warning with auto brake, and road-departure mitigation, certainly helps the argument. Blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and cameras are still reserved for optional packages or higher trims, so you’ll want to check exactly what’s fitted on any used example.
The IIHS results also give you a useful caution: even with strong overall crash performance, the small-overlap and headlight ratings are worth keeping in mind if you’re comparing cars on safety detail rather than just headline scores.
Should I buy a 2018 Acura TLX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 57.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.06% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2018 refresh brings a faster infotainment system, extra standard safety, and the sporty A-Spec trims that are highlighted as the real winners for the year.
The bottom line: The 2018 is the right pick if you want the refreshed TLX with stronger standard safety and the more distinctive A-Spec personality. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully and focus on the best-maintained examples, but the 2018 stands out as the more appealing version of this first-generation TLX formula.
