Acura’s formula for the MDX has always emphasized a sporty personality alongside family-friendly practicality, and this generation continued that approach with a re-engineered 3.5-liter V6 making 290 horsepower. It also offered a front-wheel drive version for the first time, while the Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive setup helped it earn a 21 mpg combined EPA rating, or up to 23 mpg combined with front-wheel drive.

There are tradeoffs, though. The third-generation MDX lost some interior space compared with the previous version, including a smaller second row and less cargo room overall, and its infotainment system was not especially easy to use.
