Is the 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan a good car?

With a user rating of 3.5/5, the 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan looks like a mixed but appealing choice if you value feel and features over outright space. Owners commonly praise its smooth driving experience, premium interior, and decent gas mileage, while also liking its compact size and handling. The Tiguan’s use case fits you best if you want a small SUV with a more upscale personality and everyday drivability. With 32.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is meaningful shopping opportunity if you compare carefully.

Is the 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan reliable?

The 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan stands out as a compact SUV that tries to blend a more premium feel with everyday practicality. Its owner feedback points to a smooth, dependable-feeling driving experience, and many reviewers describe it as a comfortable, trouble-free daily driver with a premium interior. That said, the model’s long-term ownership picture is best approached carefully, since used buyers should be prepared to verify maintenance history and watch for repair-prone examples.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan?

At 62.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on body condition, panel alignment, and signs of uneven wear or deferred maintenance. Because this model’s appeal depends heavily on how well it has been cared for, prioritize examples with clean records and consistent service documentation.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,518 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.14% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 62.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $10,054, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan's resale value?

The current average of $10,054 sits slightly below last year's $10,945.

That decline suggests the Tiguan has softened in the used market, which can work against you if you plan to sell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you can help protect your future resale position. For a seller, the key is to avoid overpaying now, since the market has already moved lower.

Should I buy a 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 62.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.14% compared with last year.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $12,249, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $10,054 average.
• It adds more cargo space and a stronger focus on backseat room and tech.

The bottom line:
You should lean toward the 2017 if you want the lower entry price and are comfortable shopping carefully for condition and history. If you want more space, newer tech, and a more family-focused layout, the 2018 is the better alternative, though you’ll pay more for it.

How does the 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan compare to the 2017 Honda CR-V?

The Tiguan gives you a lower used price and a more powerful engine, while the CR-V brings better fuel economy and far more listings to choose from. If your priority is value and a more premium-feeling drive, the Tiguan is the more affordable pick. If you want broader selection and stronger efficiency, the CR-V is the safer mainstream alternative.
