How much does the 2017 Volkswagen Beetle cost?

Prices are up 6.89% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 288 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2017 Volkswagen Beetle a good car?

Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. The 2017 Volkswagen Beetle stands out for its retro style, roomier interior than earlier Beetles, and significantly more trunk space, while still keeping the distinctive shape that makes it easy to recognize. It also got a comprehensive update for 2017, including new bumpers, a revised dashboard, and equipment upgrades, which helps it feel more modern and well equipped. The trade-off is that it still isn’t especially practical compared with many rivals, but if you want character and a premium-feeling cabin, it fits that brief well. 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2017 Volkswagen Beetle reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The 2017 Volkswagen Beetle’s overview also notes that it does not have a standout reliability record, with engines and timing chains called out as potential trouble spots. That means you should treat condition and maintenance history as especially important when shopping used. For long-term ownership, the main risk is buying a car that has been poorly maintained or already shows signs of those known mechanical concerns.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Volkswagen Beetle?

At 54.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any accident damage was repaired properly. Put a pre-purchase inspection at the top of your list, with extra attention to engine condition, timing-chain-related concerns, and overall maintenance records. Because the Beetle’s appeal depends so much on style and character, you should also focus on cosmetic condition, cabin wear, and whether the car still feels well cared for.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Volkswagen Beetle?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 288 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 6.89% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 54.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $16,195, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Volkswagen Beetle's resale value?

The current average of $18,732 sits slightly above last year's $17,524.

That upward move suggests the Beetle has held buyer interest well enough to support pricing. For a future seller, that means a clean, well-kept example should still have appeal, especially if it presents as a desirable trim or a car with strong documentation. The limited supply of good-condition listings can also help if your car stands out on condition and history.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Volkswagen Beetle or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 54.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 6.89% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $19,981, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $18,732 average.
• It adds a final-year 2.0-liter turbo engine and a special Coast edition.

The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2017 is the stronger starting point because it combines a lower average price with solid demand and plenty of personality. If you’re willing to pay more for the final-year update and special-edition appeal, the 2018 is the better secondary path for buyers who want the newest Beetle experience.
