CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Toyota Sienna

Summary
With 935 currently listed for sale and an average price of $19,626.00, 30.2% of 2017 Toyota Siennas for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Toyota Sienna 4.88 / 5 stars.
51.7% of 2017 Sienna models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Toyota Sienna stands out as a family-focused minivan that emphasizes space, versatility, and everyday usefulness. It offers three rows of seating, plenty of room for passengers, and a low-load floor, and it can still swallow 4'x8' sheets of plywood or sheetrock when the second and third rows are removed. That combination of passenger room and cargo flexibility is a big part of its appeal, especially for buyers who need one vehicle to handle school runs, road trips, and hauling duties.
It is also notable for its safety and convenience equipment. The Sienna comes standard with Toyota SafetySense 2.0 and a nine-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the safety suite includes dynamic radar cruise control, lane trace assist, and a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection. Even the base LE trim is described as well equipped, with Softex upholstery on the stowable second- and third-row seats, keyless entry, push-button start, blind spot monitoring, and a large number of USB ports within easy reach of front and rear passengers.
At the same time, the 2017 Toyota Sienna is not without drawbacks. The source notes transmission issues for this model year, so it is worth paying close attention during a test drive. More broadly, the Sienna is described as not particularly cool, and used examples can be expensive because demand has kept values strong. Still, for shoppers prioritizing comfort, reliability, and a highly adaptable interior, the 2017 Sienna remains a compelling choice.

I purchased this vehicle for the reliability factor, but have absolutely been blown away by the engineering factor. I have never owned a vehicle so we’ll planned out. I mean from the hood prop, in-cab adjustable HID headlights, to the bottle holders (yes, it’s got cup holders front and telescopic for the middle seats) but up front the Toyota engineers thought, “hey, where do they put their Topo Chico bottles while their coffee sits in the cup holders?” Oh I know… and bam, their they are, sliding out from the dash. The 295hp is in a heavy vehicle, so it’s not peppy like a Mustang or Camero, but cruising at 60mph and you need to quickly pass someone… done! Those 8-gears means there’s always one for the moment and when you press that accelerator, she takes off. I can honestly say that I’m fully impressed with the workmanship, engineering and features of this Toyota Sienna Limited.

CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2017 Toyota Sienna prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsHow much does the 2017 Toyota Sienna cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $19,626 |
| Year-Round Low | $18,595.38 |
| Year-Round High | $20,186.30 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $19,965 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −1.70% |
Prices have softened 1.70% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 938 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $18,595.38, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2017 Toyota Sienna a good car?
Yes — the 4.88/5 user rating points to very strong owner satisfaction.
Drivers consistently praise the Sienna for its spacious interior, comfort, and reliability. The review summary also highlights its versatile seating and family-friendly convenience, which makes it especially appealing if you need a practical vehicle for passengers and cargo. In use, that means it fits well if you want a minivan that can handle daily family duties and longer trips without feeling cramped.
With 31.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively while looking for the right combination of price and condition.
Is the 2017 Toyota Sienna reliable?
Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The review summary repeatedly points to reliability, and it also describes the Sienna as a vehicle drivers trust for family use. That kind of feedback matters because it suggests the model has a reputation for being dependable and trouble-free over time. For used buyers, that usually translates into lower ownership anxiety if you choose a well-kept example.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Toyota Sienna?
At 51.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, especially if a listing looks unusually well priced. Put inspection priority on body condition, repair quality, and signs of past damage, since accident history can affect both long-term durability and resale appeal. It also makes sense to confirm that any advertised accessories and convenience features are actually present on the vehicle you plan to buy.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Toyota Sienna?
This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 938 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.70% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 51.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $18,595.38, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Toyota Sienna's resale value?
The current average of $19,626 sits slightly below last year's $19,965.
That softer pricing suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, the current trend means you should expect value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle has been maintained. Strong demand for practical family vehicles can still support resale, but clean history and good upkeep will matter more if you want to protect your return.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Toyota Sienna or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 51.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.70% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $17,409, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $19,626 average.
- It emphasizes spaciousness, comfort, and family-friendly convenience.
Consider the 2018 if:
- At $21,326, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $19,626 average.
- It adds more power, available all-wheel drive, and modern safety tech.
The bottom line: The 2017 is the best fit if you want a well-liked, value-conscious minivan with strong owner satisfaction and a softer price trend.
