CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Toyota Sequoia

Summary
With 238 currently listed for sale and an average price of $27,008.00, 30.3% of 2017 Toyota Sequoias for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Toyota Sequoia 4.5 / 5 stars.
61.8% of 2017 Sequoia models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Toyota Sequoia stands out as a large, truck-based SUV built for buyers who want three rows of seating and the durability that comes with a body-on-frame design. It shares its platform with the Tundra, and that foundation helps explain the Sequoia’s reputation for dependable powertrains and strong towing ability. It is also a practical family hauler, with room for up to eight passengers depending on the second-row layout.
What makes the 2017 model especially appealing is its straightforward, proven character. The Sequoia’s long-running V8 setup is part of its appeal, and Toyota’s reputation for reliability is a major draw for shoppers who plan to keep an SUV for a long time. At the same time, the Sequoia is not trying to hide its truck roots: fuel economy is poor, and the ride can feel truck-like. Those tradeoffs are part of the package, but for buyers who value toughness, space, and towing confidence over refinement, the 2017 Toyota Sequoia has a clear identity.

Nice driving vehicle. Good features on the limited model. The only thing this one did not have was a remote starter option, which we will get installed. This the reason for the 4 star and not 5 star rating.

Good ride and lots of room. Like most of the controls except some could be more user friendly, IE: have to push button every time to fold in mirrors. Should be setting to do it automatically. Our last sequoia lasted forever and we NEVER had to do a thing to it. If this ones is as good, Ill be over the top happy!

Is the 2017 Toyota Sequoia reliable?
Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2017 Toyota Sequoia is built around Toyota’s reputation for dependable powertrains, and its truck-based construction adds to the sense that it was engineered for durability rather than flash. The Sequoia’s straightforward mechanical setup is part of its appeal if you want an SUV that feels proven and familiar. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about complexity and more about finding one that has been maintained well enough to preserve that durability.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Toyota Sequoia?
At 62.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a full vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from those with prior damage. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially on the body, frame, suspension, and other wear-prone areas that matter on a large truck-based SUV. You should also focus on overall condition and maintenance records, since a well-kept example is the best way to preserve the Sequoia’s long-term durability.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Toyota Sequoia?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings if you compare condition carefully.
- Deal availability: 26.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 253 listings available.
- Clean inventory: 62.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $26,742.97, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Should I buy a 2017 Toyota Sequoia or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 26.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 62.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line:
The 2017 Toyota Sequoia makes the most sense if you want the Sequoia’s core strengths — space, towing confidence, and a durable, truck-based feel — without moving into a newer, more expensive model year. If you’re price-sensitive, the 2017 is a sensible place to shop because it offers the same basic formula while giving you a better chance to find a deal, especially if you’re willing to compare condition closely and act quickly on a well-priced example.
