Is the 2017 Toyota Sequoia a good car?

Yes — the 4.5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. The 2017 Toyota Sequoia stands out as a large, truck-based SUV built for buyers who want traditional body-on-frame toughness and three-row practicality. It shares its platform with the Tundra, and all Sequoias seat up to eight passengers depending on the second-row layout, so you get a rugged family hauler with real space and capability. For shoppers who value reliability, space, and capability over refinement, it remains a distinctive choice. 36.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Toyota Sequoia reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The 2017 Toyota Sequoia’s appeal is rooted in its dependable 5.7-liter V8, standard rear-wheel drive, and available part-time four-wheel drive. The model year also benefits from the second generation’s reputation for durability, which is a major reason shoppers consider it in the first place. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the basic hardware and more about finding a well-kept example that has been maintained consistently.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Toyota Sequoia?

At 55.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can confirm accident records, title status, and ownership patterns before you get too far into the process. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, with extra attention to body condition, signs of prior repair, and overall wear that could affect long-term ownership. Because this is a large, truck-based SUV, you should also focus on how the vehicle feels in everyday use, especially whether the condition matches the mileage and asking price.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Toyota Sequoia?

This is a moderate market, so you can be selective without expecting a deep bargain on every listing.

• Deal availability: 36.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 303 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.98% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $26,699, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Toyota Sequoia's resale value?

The current average of $27,542 sits slightly below last year's $29,609.

That price movement suggests the market has become a bit more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price carefully to stay competitive. If you buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you can help protect your exit value later. The Sequoia’s size, capability, and reputation for durability can support demand, especially among shoppers who want a traditional full-size SUV rather than a crossover. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Toyota Sequoia or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 36.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 55.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.98% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2017 Toyota Sequoia makes the most sense if you want a rugged, three-row SUV with strong capability and you’re comfortable shopping carefully for condition. If you’re price-sensitive, you may want to compare it with nearby years and focus on the cleanest, best-documented example rather than chasing the lowest sticker price.
