What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Toyota Camry?

At 48.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection is especially useful here, since you’ll want to focus on body condition, panel alignment, and signs of wear that could affect long-term value. It also helps to compare trim equipment carefully, because some versions are much better equipped than others.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LE comes with halogen headlights, daytime running lights, a reversing camera, remote keyless entry, a 6.1-inch touchscreen display, woodgrain-style interior trim, and power locks and windows. The SE adds a sporty front-end look, a black mesh grille, 17-inch alloy graphite-look wheels, a sport-tuned suspension, chrome-tipped exhaust, and a rear spoiler. The XSE adds 18-inch machined alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, and Ultrasuede front and rear seats, while another XSE configuration adds LED headlights, a smart key system, push-button start, leather-trimmed heated front seats, and a leather-trimmed steering wheel.
• Powertrain: The standard engine is a 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder with 178 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque. A 3.5-liter V6 with 268 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque is available on the XSE and XLE. Power goes through a 6-speed automatic with manual tap-shift mode, and the SE and XSE add steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters.
• Safety package: The Camry comes standard with vehicle stability control, traction control, 10 airbags, the LATCH child-seat anchoring system, a reversing camera, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Available driver-assistance features include dynamic radar cruise control, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. It does not have forward-collision avoidance and prevention.
• Infotainment: The LE and SE use a 6.1-inch touchscreen with USB connectivity, Bluetooth hands-free calling with Siri EyesFree, and a standard 4-speaker stereo. The XSE and XLE get a 7-inch touchscreen with connected navigation, voice recognition, SiriusXM All Access, real-time traffic and weather updates, and a 10-speaker JBL premium audio system. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not available.
• Fuel efficiency: Fuel economy is listed at 24 mpg city, 33 highway, and 27 combined.

Which 2017 Toyota Camry trim should I buy?

The 2017 Toyota Camry is offered in 4 trim levels: LE, SE, XSE, and XLE.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the value-focused choice if you want the Camry’s core strengths at the lowest entry point. You get the basics done well, including a reversing camera, keyless entry, and a 6.1-inch touchscreen, so it makes sense if you care more about comfort and practicality than extras.
• SE: This trim adds a sportier look and a firmer suspension, plus paddle shifters and larger wheels. It suits you if you want a little more style and a slightly more engaging feel without moving into luxury-trim pricing.
• XSE: This is the best-value upgrade if you want the richest mix of equipment and comfort. It brings the larger touchscreen, navigation, premium audio, dual-zone climate control, and Ultrasuede seating, making it the sweet spot for shoppers who want a more upscale cabin.
• XLE: This is the trim to target if you want the most comfort-oriented setup and the available V6. It fits you best if you want a more premium daily driver and are willing to pay for the extra equipment.

The safety package is strongest on higher trims, where more advanced driver-assistance features are available.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Toyota Camry?

This looks like a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient.

• Deal availability: 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,458 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.05% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 48.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,167, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Toyota Camry's resale value?

The current average of $14,967 sits slightly above last year's $14,812.

That modest increase suggests the Camry has held value reasonably well, which is a good sign if you plan to sell later. The price trend also points to steady demand rather than a sharp drop, so well-kept examples should remain easy to market. Strong condition and a clean history will matter most if you want to maximize your return.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Toyota Camry safe?

The 2017 Toyota Camry earns an overall crash score of Good from the IIHS and is an IIHS Top Safety Pick+; it earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes vehicle stability control, traction control, 10 airbags, the LATCH child-seat anchoring system, a reversing camera, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Available driver-assistance features include dynamic radar cruise control, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

One important caveat is that it does not have forward-collision avoidance and prevention, so you should not assume every modern active-safety feature is included.

Should I buy a 2017 Toyota Camry or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 48.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.05% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The expert review says the current Camry is a very competent sedan that can challenge the Accord.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $13,702, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $14,967 average.
• It’s a practical, well-rounded daily driver with strong space and comfort.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $17,633, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $14,967 average.
• It adds bolder styling and a more expressive personality.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, satisfaction, and proven competence, the 2017 is the primary path to consider. If your budget is tighter, the 2016 is the value play; if you want a newer look and can spend more, the 2018 is the upgrade path.
