Summary
With 171 currently listed for sale and an average price of $13,416, 39.8% of 2017 Toyota Camry listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Toyota Camry 4.85 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2017 Toyota Camry stands out because it is the last model year of its generation, and it had already evolved into a very competent sedan by then. Toyota’s own description makes clear that this Camry was a far cry from a cookie-cutter family sedan, which helps explain why it remained a serious choice for shoppers even as an all-new version had already been unveiled.
What makes the 2017 Camry appealing is the balance it strikes for family-sedan buyers. The expert review says it gives the upscale Honda Accord a run for its money, and owner feedback reinforces that appeal with praise for reliability, a smooth ride, a comfortable interior, good fuel economy, and a spacious trunk. At the same time, some owners wanted better gas mileage and more modern features such as lane assist and built-in navigation, so the car’s strengths are clear even if it was not the most up-to-date option in every respect.

A lot of people looking at a certain car for the lowest price end up getting the oldest/first year of a cars generation. Thats because its typically the least expensive year of that particular body style they are looking for. As someone whos sold many cars in the last decade I can assure you, that is typically a big mistake. They often have problems that automakers cant know about until thousands of people have driven them for tens of thousands of miles, or more. I wanted the most reliable car possible. Easy, right? Just buy a Toyota... right? No. Ive seen it with Toyota as well. Many times. So I purposely sought the most recent model year of a generation of cars that are widely considered the most reliable ever made. A 2017 Camry (non-hybrid), if treated well, can be counted on being driven for over 1 million miles without an engine rebuild. They are an engineering marvel of our time. The 2.5l 2AR-FE has to be the most bulletproof example of a gasoline engine to ever sit under a hood. The car itself is well designed and is a flawless performer in normal daily driving. The SE/XSEs in particular have a suspension that can take a quickly-turned corner without skipping a beat. The seats are very comfortable over long drives, but supportive when youre in the curves. It has large windows to avoid blind spots and has airbags in every direction. The crash tests show that its extraordinarily safe if the unthinkable occurs. Its simply a brilliant choice of car. And getting back to my first sentences, the 2017 model had it all nailed down after 6 years of getting closer and closer to perfection. Toyota could have gotten away with not redesigning it for several more years. Easily. However, being the most popular car in the United States is a challenge that requires not letting the customers get bored. So I suppose Ill forgive Toyota for not making the car longer. That said, any one of the years of the seventh generation Camry is a great car to own. But this last year is perfection. Its why I have one. Im proud & grateful to be the owner of a 2017 Camry SE. Ill likely drive it until the car or myself dies. Dont ask me which one will kick the bucket first though, because Im 42 and this engineering marvel of the auto world is only 7. Dont pass up a well treated one.

I got a 2017 SE after comparing it with a 2017 LE. The SE I purchased drives very smoothly and handles just as well. The car feels so sturdy yet handles so well. I’m very happy with this purchase!!

Is the 2017 Toyota Camry a good car?
Yes — the 2017 Toyota Camry earns a 4.85/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its reliability, smooth ride, comfortable interior, good fuel economy, and spacious trunk. That lines up well with the Camry’s role as a practical family sedan, especially if you want a calm daily driver with broad appeal rather than a flashy one.
With 30.2% of listings priced as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2017 Toyota Camry reliable?
Owners rate it 4.85/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback repeatedly highlights reliability, and it also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience with strong long-term appeal. The expert review reinforces that impression by describing the Camry as a competent sedan that’s well suited to everyday use.
Toyota’s value-oriented positioning and strong safety reputation add to the case for confidence over time. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the car’s basic durability and more about finding one that has been maintained well and not worn down by age or mileage.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Toyota Camry?
At 48.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with prior damage. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and whether the car’s equipment still works as expected, since the Camry’s value depends heavily on finding a clean, well-kept example.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The LE comes with halogen headlights, a reversing camera, remote keyless entry, a 6.1-inch touchscreen, woodgrain-style interior trim, and power locks and windows. The SE adds a sporty front-end look, 17-inch alloy graphite-look wheels, a sport-tuned suspension, chrome-tipped exhaust, and a rear spoiler. The XSE adds 18-inch machined alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, and Ultrasuede front and rear seats. The XLE adds LED headlights, 17-inch alloy wheels, a smart key system, push-button start, leather-trimmed heated front seats, and a leather-trimmed steering wheel.
- Powertrain: The standard engine is a 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder with 178 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque. XSE and XLE trims can also be equipped with an available 3.5-liter V6 that makes 268 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque. A 6-speed automatic is standard, and the SE and XSE add steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes vehicle stability control, traction control, 10 airbags, the LATCH child-seat anchoring system, a reversing camera, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Available driver-assistance features include dynamic radar cruise control, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. Forward-collision avoidance and prevention is not included.
- Infotainment: The LE and SE use a 6.1-inch touchscreen with USB connectivity, Bluetooth hands-free calling with Siri EyesFree, and a standard 4-speaker stereo. The XSE and XLE upgrade to a 7-inch touchscreen with connected navigation, voice recognition, SiriusXM All Access, real-time traffic and weather updates, and a 10-speaker JBL premium audio system. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not included.
- Fuel efficiency: The Camry is listed at 24 mpg city, 33 highway, 27 combined.
Which 2017 Toyota Camry trim should I buy?
The 2017 Toyota Camry is offered in 4 trim levels: LE, SE, XSE, and XLE.
Here's the short version:
- LE: This is the value-focused choice if you want the Camry’s core strengths at the lowest entry point. You still get the basics that matter most, including the reversing camera, touchscreen, Bluetooth, and a practical cabin layout.
- SE: This is the best-value trim if you want a more engaging look and feel without moving too far up the price ladder. The sport-tuned suspension, 17-inch wheels, and sharper exterior treatment give it more personality than the LE.
- XSE: This is the trim to choose if you want the most balanced mix of style, comfort, and equipment. It adds the larger touchscreen, dual-zone climate control, Ultrasuede seating, and available V6 power, making it the most appealing all-around upgrade.
- XLE: This is the comfort-leaning choice if you want the most upscale feature set. The smart key system, push-button start, heated leather-trimmed front seats, and LED headlights make it the most premium-feeling Camry in the lineup.
The available safety tech includes dynamic radar cruise control, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Toyota Camry?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,383 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 48.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $14,166, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Toyota Camry's resale value?
The current average of $14,986 sits slightly above last year's $14,900.
That small increase suggests the Camry has held its value fairly well rather than swinging sharply in either direction. For a future seller, that kind of stability is helpful because it points to steady demand and a market that is not being pushed down by rapid depreciation.
The Camry’s broad appeal also helps support resale strength, especially when a used example has a clean history and strong equipment. Buyers tend to respond well to models with a reputation for reliability, comfort, and everyday usefulness.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.85/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Toyota Camry safe?
The 2017 Toyota Camry earns an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ rating and a five-star overall crash-test rating from NHTSA.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes vehicle stability control, traction control, 10 airbags, the LATCH child-seat anchoring system, a reversing camera, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Available driver-assistance features include dynamic radar cruise control, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
One important caveat is that it does not include forward-collision avoidance and prevention, so shoppers who want the newest active-safety tech should pay close attention to trim and equipment.
Should I buy a 2017 Toyota Camry or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 48.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.85/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It’s the last year of this generation, with strong value and a well-rounded feature set.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $13,863, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $14,986 average.
- It offers a competent, practical, and easy-to-live-with hybrid sedan experience.
Consider the 2018 if:
- At $17,825, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $14,986 average.
- It brings bolder styling and a more expressive take on the Camry formula.
The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price stability, owner satisfaction, and broad usefulness, the 2017 is the smart default. If your budget is tighter, the 2016 can save you money, while the 2018 makes sense if you want the newer design and are willing to pay more for it.
