CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Porsche 911

Summary
With 171 currently listed for sale near Wichita, KS and an average price of $104,998, 23.4% of 2017 Porsche 911s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Porsche 911 4.67 / 5 stars.
88.3% of 2017 Porsche 911 models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Porsche 911 stands out because it sits at the point where the model entered its turbo era. Almost all models added a turbocharger for improved performance and efficiency, while the base Carrera’s output increased to 370hp, the Carrera S jumped to 420hp, and the GTS to 450hp. The Turbo and Turbo S rose to 540hp and 580hp, respectively. Porsche also added a new infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, giving the car a more modern feel without losing the 911’s familiar character.
That mix of tradition and update is a big part of the 2017 911’s appeal. It kept the model’s distinctive shape and rear-engine layout, but the changes made it quicker and more efficient. The 911’s reputation for excellent all-around performance and iconic style still comes through strongly, and owners also praise its power, road handling, and fit and finish. At the same time, buyers should expect a pricey car with limited passenger and cargo space, and depreciation remains a concern for some shoppers.

This 911 C4S is a beauty! Quintessential Porsche with semi-modern features. Value is not good, more buyers would be interested and make a deal for $95,000-100,000. Needs to show better history of maintenance and any accidents. Dealer should allow buyer to have independent mechanic review. Dr Dennis Smith

Is the 2017 Porsche 911 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The user feedback also points to a car that feels dependable in the ways owners care about most, with praise centered on the driving experience, fit and finish, and overall enjoyment over time. That kind of feedback suggests the 2017 Porsche 911 can be a reassuring choice if you want a used sports car you can count on for sustained ownership. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is paying a premium for a car that may still carry expensive upkeep if condition and maintenance history are not strong.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Porsche 911?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on a performance car where condition matters as much as mileage. Focus on signs of prior damage, maintenance consistency, and whether the car has been cared for in a way that matches its price. A clean history report is important, but you should also make sure the car’s overall wear, service records, and cosmetic condition line up with what you expect from a premium sports car.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Porsche 911?
This is a seller’s market, so you should act selectively and be ready to move when a strong listing appears.
- Deal availability: 26.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 544 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 4.36% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 82.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $113,566, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Porsche 911's resale value?
The current average of $121,521 sits slightly above last year's $116,447.
That upward move suggests the market is still willing to pay for this model year, which is a positive sign if you plan to sell later. A rising average price can support stronger resale expectations, especially when inventory is not overwhelming and buyers are still responding to the 911 nameplate. The fact that owner satisfaction is strong also helps keep demand steady in the used market.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Porsche 911 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 26.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices are up 4.36% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line:
If you want the 911 at a point where it blends updated tech, strong owner satisfaction, and a still-recognizable driving character, the 2017 is the primary year to target. If your main priority is stretching your budget, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on whichever one gives you the best condition and price combination rather than chasing the newest badge alone.
