Is the 2017 Nissan Maxima a good car?

Generally — the 4.45/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise the stylish design, the blend of luxury and sportiness, and the impressive performance. They also call out the smooth ride and ample features, which makes this a good fit if you want a sedan that feels more upscale and engaging than basic transportation.

The overview also frames it as a comfort-leaning sedan with sporty character, so you should expect a car that balances everyday usability with a more expressive driving feel. Some owners wish it had more features, but the overall feedback is still positive.

With 27.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Nissan Maxima reliable?

Owners rate it 4.45/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a car that many drivers find dependable and trouble-free enough to recommend, especially when they value comfort, performance, and a well-equipped cabin. That kind of long-term praise matters because it suggests the Maxima can be a car you feel comfortable counting on.

For used buyers, the main ownership risk is making sure a specific example has been maintained well, since condition can vary more than the overall reputation suggests.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Nissan Maxima?

At 48.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on overall condition, repair quality, and signs of inconsistent wear so you can avoid paying strong money for a car with hidden issues.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Nissan Maxima?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient.

• Deal availability: 27.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 839 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.58% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 48.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $12,827, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Nissan Maxima's resale value?

The current average of $12,906 sits slightly below last year's $14,274.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. For a future seller, that also means resale upside may be more limited unless you buy carefully and keep the car in excellent condition. Strong equipment and broad appeal can still help, but you should not expect rapid appreciation from this model year.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.45/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Nissan Maxima or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 27.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 48.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.58% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.45/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $11,989, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $12,906 average.
• It puts styling first and strongly appeals to buyers who value design.

The bottom line: The 2017 is the better all-around pick if you want the newer equipment and stronger market support, especially with the current price drop. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2016 is the better value path, particularly if styling is your main draw.
